I just beat ME3 and, ending excluded, I'd say it has the best writing of any game I've played.

In general, ending excluded, I'd say it's the best game I've ever played, period. Combat (at least as a Vanguard/VanGod) is agile, challenging, and fun. The world is more rich and immersive than anything else I've played. It makes Skyrim seem tiny in scope by comparison. The characters are well-fleshed out and I had a lot of attachment to them after three games with them -- I teared up at one moment in the game when one of my crewmates didn't make it because of a choice I made.

The ending, however, is such incredible ass.

Hairy, shitty, shark ass.

I've played ME but not ME2. Should I play the second one before diving into the third?

I absolutely loved ME. Just never got around to playing the sequel.

Absolutely. I replayed 1 and 2 before 3 came out in order to do my "canon" play-through. It's definitely worth it to carry over all the decisions you made in the first two games. For me, it really added to the immersion and emotional heft of the game.

I'm doing the same and have just started on 1 again. I want to get through as quickly as I can so I'm just carving through everything on Veteran with a level 59 soldier. I started on Normal but it just seemed a little too easy taking on the starting Geth with Colossus X armour and the level X spectre weapons.

is there anything else in 1 I need to be thinking about that'll carry over to future games? Can't really remember as it's a while since I played.

A bunch of side stuff carries through as well, but it doesn't affect the main plot really. It just adds a lot of nice color to the game.

The dialogue is corny and cliched as fuck, and that can't be forgiven. It's cringe-worthy. The story is run-of-the-mill sci-fi.

Really? I played ME2 and then played ME, and like ME2 way way way more than ME... the gameplay is much better.I hated how much you have to use the mako / constantly have to get rid of items so you don't go over your limit.

super meat boy is great. I love that it brings you right back into the level when you die. Makes it a lot less annoying to die over and over again. Makes a game that might be unplayable addictive instead.

Some of those levels I don't think I will ever beat though.

Of course. But beyond the Fallout and ME series, there's a distinct lack of non wizardry RPGs out there. I guess you could put KOTR in there also, but MMORPGs aren't really my thing.
