For Sale:
NIB Enzo Bonafe Adelaide - 9.5 UK - Beautiful Vitello Bolet brown - 804 last

Will Ship To: CONUS

For sale is a pair of Enzo Bonafe adelaides with the details below. These are new and come with the box and dust bags. For those who don't know, Bonafe shoes are hand lasted and welted. The quality of workmanship and finishing is excellent. They're one of the best values in mens shoes today. Here are the details:

  • Size: 9.5UK.
  • Last: 804. The 804 last is a classic round, almond-shaped last. It's aesthetics are similar to Vass's F last. SkoAB says to take the same size as Carmina Rain. That didn't work for me because the instep is slightly higher. If Rain is perfect for you or even a bit narrow, these were meant for you.
  • Color: Vitello Bolet. I'd say Bolet is pretty much an ideal mid-dark brown, the kind of color you imagine when you think of a brown business shoe. Consider it Bonafe's equivalent of EG DOAK or G&G Vintage Oak, though without the burnishing and perhaps a bit more yellow. The photos came out darker than the actual color. I tried to adjust them but couldn't get the color accurate--cloudy day, office window, etc. The second photo is closer to the actual color. I will post outdoor photos as soon as possible.
  • Model: 3200MOD. Note the peaked heel counter, simlar to G&G St. James II.
  • Sole: Single Dainite with a thin leather mid-sole. I selected this configuration so that the sole would be sleek for a business shoe but wearable in wet weather.

I ordered these through Skoaktiebolaget in January during the MTO fee waiver. Unfortunately, the instep is too high for me, and insoles and tongue pads won't fix it. Otherwise, there is no way that I would part with these. They're gorgeous.

Please note that my name is written on the insole.

Let me know if you have any questions. Price includes shipping in the US via USPS.

New photos added below. They're almost all outdoor shots in direct sunlight so they're a bit lighter than in person, but I adjusted them so that I think they're pretty accurate now. There's one new indoor shot that's pretty accurate. Also, two photos show the sole measurements.

5/31/15 Update: Added the first photo. Forgotten I'd taken it.

Oh man, what a bummer.  Sorry these didn't work out, they are freaking beautiful.  I'm also on the fence about trying the 804 last.   For reference, what other models/sizes do you wear?

Mr. Six,

Can you provide outsole measurements please?

As inaccurate as they are, they still give a general sense of the size of the shoes.

Many Thanks.

Yeah, if I can figure out sizing, I'll probably just order another pair since I like them so much! Here are my other sizes for comparison:

Carmina

Forest 9.5

Robert 9.5

Simpson 10

Rain 9.5 (solid fit with derbies; a little loose for a pair of suede oxfords, so I put a tongue pad in the left shoe)

G&G

TG73 10

MH71 9.5 or 10

Vass

F 43.5 right foot, 43.25 left foot

U 44/43.75 right foot, 43.5 left foot

EG

888 10 (though I only have derbies and don't know how an oxford would fit.

Let me know if I an do some additional comparison for you.

Edit to add: I see your location says SF. I'm in the East Bay. If you think these might work and want to try them on, I'm sure we could arrange to meet somewhere.

Happy to when I get a chance this weekend. EB didn't trim the soles super close to the uppers (see the last photo; probably to accommodate the Dainite) so they'll be even a bit off from usual, but still somewhat useful. I'll shoot you a PM when I've got them.

Besides the instep being a bit too high for you, how was the length? Beautiful shoes btw and GLWS

It's a little hard to say. As SkoAB says in the description of the last, the toe is a bit extended. Combined with the instep and width issues, it's difficult to judge. I think the length would be fine if the instep/width were right. It might be a bit long for my left foot, which is shorter and more narrow. I think the length would be OK for my right.

Hello,

What do you mean when you say instep is too high for you? Do you mean that the tongue of the shoe has too much gap?

Thanks.

@sinefine By instep I mean the height of the shoe from the insole to the tongue/laces. When tying the shoes, I can pull the lacing completely closed, and the shoes are still loose. If that doesn't help, please let me know.

If anyone else has questions, I'm happy to answer them. These shoes deserve a good home!

Dude, these are so lovely. What a wonderful shade of brown. Your description of the 804 was helpful. I think I fit a true 7G in the 946 and the Rain in 7 EEE (new extra wide option). I'm guessing I need to try the 804 in a 7F or even G.

GLWS, my man.

^ Thanks, man! Bolet is a wonderful color. I'm glad the description was helpful. 804 is a great last, but I can report that it's long and has a high instep. (Some photos from the EB thread a few weeks ago showing the difference in length between 804 and 946 were illuminating.) A half size down would have been better. I have a pair of EB's on 946 on order. Fingers crossed that they work in my Rain size.

Update for anyone who looks at this thread. I have some thick insoles, tongue pads, and heel grips on order. If they make these shoes wearable, I'm keeping them. If you've thought about getting these, you have about a week in which they'll definitely be NIB. After that, it's uncertain. Let me know if you're interested!
