So, I just bought a Tramezza Folisifo

got it in a 12D @ $229 from a SF outlet. Before I bought it, I researched on this site Tramezza sizings and from what I gathered, it is recommended to go half size up since the Tramezzas are made rather slim relative to other shoes, even Lav Orginiales. I usually wear 11.5D, but can often get away with a 12D.

So, I ordered 12D thinking it is the smart choice. I get it and after fastening only the middle notch on the buckle, notice that it is loose. So, I notched the very maximum on the buckle (there are only 3 notches) and was able to get a nice fit.

Obviously, a 11.5D would have been better. Should I even bother looking for an 11.5D when the difference is this small? Or, is this difference sigifinicant enough to warrant scouring for 11.5Ds?

Thanks.

If you can find it, fine. If not, be happy with your purchase ($229 for Tramezza is an absolute steal), and use tongue pads.

I definitely think that you should scour for the 11.5's so that you could sell the 12's to me!!

Don't monks that start at the 2nd buckle usually end up on the 3rd due to leather stretch? You may be out of leeway if they get slightly larger.

Too late, you could have bought these Tramezza 11 & 1/2s too from one of the best sellers here on SF.

Unless you have noticeably wider feet, I don't subscribe to having size up 1/2 size in Tramezzas, although they run narrower. You are essentially compensating for the width by buying a longer shoe. Not sure if that works right for everybody. You can try a tongue pad, I find that they do a good job if your shoes feel about 1/4 size too big. If they feel 1/2 size too big, that's because they are.

How is that comment useful in any way? He bought a pair of brand new monkstraps for not much more than the used pair of captoe bals you are suggesting he should have bought.

This is true. I don't know whose advice you followed about buying a 1/2 size larger but I would have never suggested that. Tramezzas are somewhat narrow but if anything some of the lasts run a bit long I find. I buy a 9.5EE in Tramezza and find them looser than many 10D shoes, including AE. I could not wear a 9.5D in Tramezza but if you're feet are not wider than D and your instep is not high, you should go with your regular size. Also, some lasts like the Daniely are more narrow than the Accento, Gherardo (and I think Filosofo) lasts.

Hmm, interesting. I can't imagine they'd stretch that much - besides, I now have a snug fit with that 3rd notch. Interesting, though!

Yeah, I'm starting to see that, although I've seen the whole half size up deal being mentioned several times. I may try a tongue pad - thanks.

I also bought the Daniely in 12D and it was a better fit. I am scouring the outlets for a Gherardo and I believe it's on the same last as the Filosofo, from what I've read. I will probably err on the side of the 11.5D Gherardo.

Thanks, everyone.

Run narrow? I wear a size 11.5D in 99% of my shoes and 11.5D Tramezza (gherardo, nostro, and merald2) fits me perfect.

Not true. I believe the Merald2 and Gherardo are on the same last; Filosofo and Nostro (wholecut) are on the same last, but different from that used for the first two. The toe shapes of the two lasts are noticeably different. Edit: I also buy my usual size in SF Tramezzas. I've never understood the recommendations to size up. I once emailed SF asking about lasts used for their various shoes, but got no response.

+1. I usually wear size 11.5D (in AE and most other shoes), and when I tried on a pair of Tramezzas at Saks in size 12, they were noticeably too large... all I could think of was "clown shoes". The two pair of Tramezzas that I have are 11.5D and fit fine, if not a little tight, but I like the sleek shape of the 11.5D better than 11.5E or EE so that's the sacrifice I make for aesthetics. Plus I think over time they'll stretch to the exact shape of my foot.

no dice on the 11.5D fiilosofo. That's cool. At the price, I think I can live with notching it at the last notch, and even if it stretches, can put in some tongue padding. Same deal goes for the Gherardo which I just found in 12D.

Thanks, everyone.
