Probably nothing. Sounds you have some extra in the mid section?

I'm moving this to health and fitness. Really, it depends on what shape you are in currently, and how you plan to take off the weight, whether through diet, exercise, or both, and what type of exercise.

Yes, most of my extra fat is located in the belly.

..you won't get a correct answer until you actually lose the weight.

if you drop about 300 pounds from 3 feet onto your chest, you will lose about 6 inches from around your chest. try it.

I'm also 5'8", currently hovering around 160. IMO, 150 or so is a pretty healthy weight for our height. Technically 160 isn't overweight, but I look better with less of a gut (who doesn't).

Conne after his fitness revelation:

On a serious note to the OP: We don't know your body composition currently so you could lose 10lbs and it have no effect on your chest or it could take an inch off no telling. FWIW I'm 5'10, 158 with a 38ish inch chest and it looks fine. Maybe instead of losing weight you should just strength train...

I'm assuming your worried about your jackets/shirts being too loose?

I'm just a touch over 5'8" and have been anywhere between 155 lbs and 175 lbs within the last couple of years. For the most part, I've been able to wear the same clothes, although I can definitely notice a difference in fit.

If you're lifting, you should be fine.
