Best Cheap/ Fairly priced Eats in NYC that Youve been to or heard of... - Page 3

I like Tavern on Jane a lot. The owner is a friend of a friend. It's not exceptionally great food or exceptionally cheap, but it's a great value and a nice atmosphere.

W77th and Broadway... Manhattan Diner. Only good thing is the rotisserie chicken with apple walnut stuffing. I had it 3 times, once wasn't as good but the other times it was incredible. Very moist meat, great dish. Rest is just regular shitty american food.

The guy's name is Al Yeganeh. Not sure if he's the Soup Man, because I remember his place having a different name, but that was a long time ago. He really hated being made into a character with the word Nazi in his name. He also really is a bit of a martinet (look it up).

Unfortunately Al closed down the only real store he had on 55th St. Not sure if it was open, that I would classify cheap or fairly priced, because it was $15 for soup, fruit and bread. Hardly a good deal.

Although Mario Battali is no longer involved, Po is a dark horse in the fairly priced market. Maybe now there is one dish over $20, but most stuff is under that mark and is a quality product. They will also cork your wine for $25. However, reservations are still needed a few weeks in advance.

Int'l Soup Kitchen is gone. The franchised Soup Man is no better then the other Hale 'n Hearty stuff. Nothing to write home about. It's a shame, because the real thing was terrific. Of course the lines were unbearable. You had to work in the neighborhood and then go late afternoon and get some for dinner. Unfortunately many would be sold out. Terrific soup, but overpriced (even w/ the crust of bread, bannana and little piece ofchocolate)....

I went to the Soup Man over the weekend...tis really over priced but its not that bad. I wouldnt pay for ten dollars for a bowl of their crab bisque. Maybe if the original was around....

Pepe Rosso is really good esp at those prices

Vertigo at 26th & 3rd has a fantastic cajun chicken sandwich.

Also, Mayrose @ 920 Broadway, though last time I looked they were under renovation.

I went to Carls and it wasnt that great either. It was ok but not much better than 99 MTP the first time...

Wogies are the guys (bros?) from Conshohocken over on Greenwich? If it is the same place, I'll agree that their steak is superior to Carl's & 99MTP, which I find to be more in the Jim's vein of fast food....
