Best Cheap/ Fairly priced Eats in NYC that Youve been to or heard of... - Page 2

Any legitimate ethnic place in an ethnic neighborhood will be the "best" cheapest place you can eat in the city. Just pick what it is you want, go to that neighborhood and you're done.

BTW, does anyone remember Shakespeare Burgers (or Burger Co.) on west 4th?? Was it the idiocy of my youth that led me to believe that these were awesome burgers? They had a Hagaan Dazs right next to them, anyone???

If you're interested in a nice variation, check out BBsandwich Bar on W. 3rd. Some fancy pants chef from south jersey put a cheeseteak on a kaiser roll w/ a fiery pepper ketchup sauce. Very tasty. The chef guy flew the coop, but franchiser was doing OK.

Lunetta

Oh man.

Anyone know why they closed?

Mayrose? Wasn't it basically just a diner? Word is that Zaro's next door took away too much business...

Yeah, but I was a huge fan. It also had an excellent cajun chicken sandwich.

It was also a great airy space, you could count on good food - unlike Moonlight or any of the other diners of the ilk - good for people watching, cheap prices; just a great standby.

My favorite diner in NYC is Empire Diner. But it's not especially cheap (for a diner)

They put up that scaffolding outside a few months ago and it really killed the space. It was a great bright room. Perfect for a weekend lunch.

In 14 years I never stepped foot inside the place . Lunetta is supposed to be good, and I'm pretty sure they don't plan to keep the scaffolding...

- Mamoun's (best taouk and falafel in NYU land)
- Falai Panetteria (great eggs and breakfast food, cool but small place)
- Bouchon Bakery (awesome sandwiches, salads and desserts from the kitchen of Thomas Keller)
- Pepe Rosso (2 tables, 6 chairs, awesome pasta at tiny prices)
- New York Burger Company (only good burger chain in NYC... until In'n'Out decides to come to the East coast)

Pepe Rosso is SoHo's best kept secret...

Dumpling House on Eldridge and Broome (I think). 5 dumplings for $1. Can't really get a better bang for your buck when you can get stuffed with awesome food for $4.

Nha Trang Centre, 148 Centre St - Awesome Vietnamese place that is very reasonable.

those 4/5 dumpling for 1$ places are all right. I've probably tried every one in chinatown, they're practically chinatown junk food(finish off with mini hotcakes for 1$ and some bubble tea). Many of these dumpling places also sell beef stew on a sort of focaccia sandwhich, usually like 3$ and pretty damn good. Don't forget the chinatown food carts, 1-2$ fried chicken, spring rolls, tofu or those stuffed rice noodle things with various fillings.

Difara in brooklyn deserves special mention here as best pizza in NYC(even if you disagree, it's still definitely top 3), make sure you get lots of toppings(artichoke!) and use some good parmesan.
