The key with the ties is taking high quality pictures - you might be surprised at the effect a good presentation has on the dollar totals your items bring in.

My background is in marketing...Ad agencies, Radio, TV, but mostly in the graphic design biz (I was on the business end). I'm also a published author of a hard bound, full-color, pictoral book on custom knifemaking. I know a thing or two about presentation. As we're fond of saying, "Presentation is everything..."

These days I spend most of my time with my knifemaking (I make custom "art" knives). With the Internet playing such an important role these days in sales of high-end, custom knives, it's vital that a knifemaker learn how to take at least halfway decent pics. I'm by no means an expert at photography, but over the past few years my photos have certainly become acceptable. A lightbox, a digi-cam, and a bounce card...can make all the difference in the world.

Here are a couple of pics that I shot of my knives:

And of course, my avatar pic:

I'm also known for the embellishment work I do with expensive, custom flashlights. More photos by yours truly:

Not trying to be flip, but I think I might be able to handle taking a couple of good shots of my ties.

to put it simply, Bally is overpriced to begin with. And on top of that, as of the last 10 years they have lost all of their luxury market cachet. You will never get top dollar for them.

I already got that message. That's why when I re-listed the Bally's I dropped the price down even lower, to $49.00.

Top dollar no, but...

I think he's very realistic at $49.95 even if these boots are Ballys

Oh, to be sure... I was not trying to call into question your ability to take pictures. I just wanted to emphasize the importance of good pictures on ebay, especially when selling ties. The photographs on your Bally auction look lovely.

Nice knife and balisongs, and Orb and LionCub (?).

The Bally Scribe line shoes I 've handled are well made and Goodyear welted. Not sure which line these boots are from.

Thanks.

But the more important question is...

Are you as impressed with my knives?

Thank you. And you were very close.

The first is indeed by Orb, it's the "Raw Ti."

And you were also very close with the 2nd guess. Like the Lion Cub, this custom flashlight is also a "Mr Bulk" light...but it's the Chameleon - Damascus Version...aka the "Dam Cham." The Chameleon very much took its design cues from the earlier Lion Cub.

Both of them are fantastic lights!!!

What kind of market is there for custom flashlights? And out of curiosity, what would the knife in your avatar cost?

Over the past couple of years collecting high-end and/or custom flashlights has become a huge category under the general heading "toys for boys." If you go into the candlepower forums, especially in the evenings, you'll typically find as many as 1500-1800 people from all over the world, buying, selling, discussing flashlights. Custom flashlights, such as the ones I posted above, will sell for upwards of $1000 or more. FYI- I don't make the lights myself, but the top makers will send their lights to me because of my expertise at coloring various types of metal.

Most of my knives average $1200-1500. The knife in my avatar sold for $1450.

Thanks for asking.

BTW- I just walked in the door...And I see that I've finally got a bid on the Bally's. The auction ends in about 7 hrs and I currently have 12 "watchers"... Looks like the shoes generated some interest afterall.
