A stranger reunited an orphan for me today. Had two Oxxford jackets in my hand and it was clear by the way I was holding them that I was trying to match the pants. Finally found one pair and he must have seen what I was doing because he walked over and immediately grabbed the other pants out of rack and said, "now you've got the full suit!" "Two full suits actually!" I said and showed him the other pair. Ended up talking about the local thrift scene for about 15 minutes as we browsed the rest of the racks together. Was a good time.

This!

What a great story. Makes you feel better about people in thrifts. There are a lot of assholes that act as if they own the thrift stores and its great to hear about people willing to be kind.

Just a few things today, all available.

EU58R Lubiam for Harrods navy subtle POW super 150s suit. Really nice, loads of handwork. It's missing a button but more importantly I missed the little hole by the shoulder til just now.

1000

Brunello Cucinelli longwings, UK8.

A bit late to the conversation, but I'll add that I, too, have a compulsion to rehang/pick up things. Part of it is because it takes two seconds to do it and I may as well since I'm standing there anyway, and the other part is that I'm such a regular, I'd hate to get the reputation of being "that guy."

One time, I was hanging a few pieces and the guy that obviously left them there asked me a question. I said "Oh, I don't work here," and he looked a bit puzzled and said "Oh, then why are you hanging things?" I simply said "Because I'm not an asshole." It took him a second, but I think he got the point.

Like Spoo, I also don't give away my hand. It's always "I like the color/pattern," or "Yeah, it seemed nice!" The stores I visit are small and I'm known at most of them. They know I go for the better stuff and I'm pretty sure one store prices things based on what I buy. They notice a brand that I buy and the next time it's marked up quite a bit. Frustrating since I'm pricing myself out of my own market.

If you were late to the conversation, I am REALLY late! I don't think I am OCD. In fact, if you saw my office you would know I am not. But, it drives me crazy to see things on the floor and I always pick them up too. I operate under the assumption it is not only good Thrift Karma to clean up a little, but I also secretly hope some item on the floor is the grail item I am looking for. One time an employee saw me doing this and she was really grateful. In fact, she let me keep the hangers for the suits I was buying (and they NEVER allow that).

Whenever anyone asks me about what I like or what I am buying, I say something similar. It usually comes up at an estate sale where I have located a bunch of suits/pants/shirts and the person checking me out looks at me (6'3" 265) and then the 42R suits and gives me an odd look. I usually say something about how my brother wears this size and he wears suits a lot. That usually satisfies them.

Kilgour :inlove: _______ Is this **** fake? I have a high certainty it is...
Thomas Burberry was a diffusion line that didn't last long, don't think anyone took the time to fake it since the price point was pretty low to begin witj Edit: that hang tag looks suspect tho. **** might be fake after all

The t shirt will make a comfortable pyjama top after all. The gang tag spelt "Knight" wrong so definitely fugazzi.

i think I care more about the people in there than about the items. Its like a game of chess.

This dude over here? Flipping sports jerseys. Competition level - 1
Tall guy, stoner looking? Flipping T Shirts. Competition level - 2 (makes quick scan for polo bear shirts)
That lady? Homeless. Competition level - 0
Gangly looking dude? Flipping pottery and furniture - competition level - 3 (scans for Goyard and LV trunks and briefcases)
Squadron of shellac haired Mexican kids in jeans aisle? Looking for wide leg True Religions for party that night - competition level - 0
Dude in polo hat, blazer and OCBD looking at shoes? Competition level 8 - go to Defcon 4, throw Smurfs blanket on top of haul in basket, do not pass go, go directly to overdrive and sportcoats/outerwear

once youve seen your enemy you can then commence fire

Great description! But, Defcon 4 would be relatively peaceful.

I know there are flippers here in Wichita, but the ones I see most of the time are flipping through the jeans and T-Shirts (things I know nothing about and have not had good luck with. I saw a kid (maybe 14-15) in a thrift that had a huge collection of SC and Suits. From afar, I could see him opening up the jackets and I thought he was looking at labels. I was impressed with a kid that age doing that. But, when I got closer I realized he was just reaching in to check the pockets for stuff left by the donor. He saw me watching him and he said "last week I found a $20 bill and a bunch of gum!"

A couple weeks ago there was a guy ahead of me flipping through suits and he got to one and said "Yes! Haggar!" I am not kidding. This was a grown man and he thought he struck gold with Haggar. I saw him later checking out and he had the same suit and a bunch of ****** pants and told the cashier it was all Haggar! When I checked the suits, he had left me a Zegna 15MilMil.

I have never seen a LV or Goyard Trunk in a thrift. I would have to restrain myself from knocking every old lady out of the way to get to it. I would feel bad about it, but if I see one in a thrift, no one is getting it but me!

I am guessing that is a dig at the Republican's being the party of white people. I put together a huge post, then realized I was doing the same thing I was upset about. This is a Political free zone, there are dozens of threads for your witty comments. Please don't clutter this thread with Political discussions.

Apparently, it's a humor-free zone as well? Seriously, why are people so sensitive lately?
