Thrift fit mostly to thank @IRKSM again for the thriftmas gift. A button popped off in the wash and I just got around to sewing it back on. My new favorite shirt.

Pardon the interruption but I know we have some college students on here and some graduate students.

Here is a note to the law students on here:

I so wish I would have known about thrifting and selling on ebay when I was a student in college and in law school. But, this note is geared specifically to law students. You have a unique opportunity to pursue this hobby and make money while in law school if you choose that part of the hobby. It will help you in a variety of ways. Whether it is right or wrong, an appreciation of classic menswear will help you as you pursue a law career. The law is still one of the few areas where a suit and tie is still common. It is not as common as it once was. But, lawyers still have to (get to!) wear suits frequently. As a thrifter, you can learn about this which will help you connect with future employers. You can also begin building the wardrobe you will need for on-campus interviews and interviews after law school. You will NEED a classically styled conservative suit when you are interviewing. When faced with all the other costs of law school and the bar exam, the last thing you need is to worry about buying a new suit.

PLUS, thrifting in law school gives you a needed break from the stress. You will also have the opportunity to make some money doing this with a limited committment of time and money.

I am writing all this because a forum member PM 'd me about being a first year law student and it reminded me of things I wish someone would have told me. So, even though you didn't ask, here are some thoughts.

You should know that I'm one of the weird ones - I actually enjoyed law school. Many lawyers will tell you they didn't learn much and it was a waste of time. But, the most important thing to remember is its about training you to think like a lawyer. You have heard that a hundred times. But, just because its a cliche that doesn't make it untrue. My advice is treat it like a job. I have never heard any successful lawyer say they wish they had spent less time studying in law school.

Also, remember you will make friends with people that will be friends for life. Some of your classmates will never make it. Some will become Judges, some will become rich, some won't pass the bar. But, everyone that goes to law school has most of the same experiences and thoughts and fears that you have.

Do the following for success in law school:

1. Make friends with the smart kids.
2. Don't drink so much, but make sure you have SOME fun.
3. Try out for the Law Review. If you don't make it, then try Moot Court. If you don't make it, apply for internships even if they are unpaid.
4. Join a study group.
5. Contribute to the study group. Be a friend.
6. Ask questions.
7. Seek out your professors. Most of them really want to help.
8. Understand it is not easy. But, it will all be worth it.
9. If you don't believe it will all be worth it, talk to a lawyer. Find a Mentor.
10. If you really can't make it work, don't spend three years torturing yourself. Get out now and go to Dental School.

Some good advice there, Noble. And don't forget #11: keep thrifting even after becoming a lawyer. After a full day of trying to get clients out of whatever fucked up situation they have gotten themselves into, it feels good to hit the racks to decompress.

Phew, just caught up on a week's worth of posts.

Didn't go thrifting once in LA, too busy living that vacation life. Got together with @colorvision for a couple drinks and a hilarious Ron Funches standup set. He also set me up with another pair of tweed Nikes. Thanks!
