Already PMed him but just to spread awareness, I'm looking for a vintage Seamaster if anyone comes across anything.

...and I'm always looking at vintage Speedking's...just tossing mine into the wants!  Have been eyeballing them for like 2 years - they're always either trashed or wayyyy over-priced.  No happy middle ground.

I made the trip back to the store yesterday after exchanging PMs with a few of you. The lady at the counter told me they had it examined by a local jeweler and it will need the date movement repaired. Otherwise, it's in decent condition. It will be 30% off next week, so I'm gambling it will still be there. If it is I'm purchasing and taking it for a repair estimate. I'm not a watch wearer, so if the cost of the repair is too high I'm more than happy to pass it along to someone here. However, if the repair cost is reasonable im keeping it.

Don't know much about watches. Is that a good price?
I don't really know watches either. I feel like I've seen modern Seamasters like that go for anywhere from 1000-3000 bucks, and I don't know enough about the nuances that make one more valuable than the other. Plus I am super happy with my $100 Orient Ray...haha

+1 i have looked into the heart of Escada for ladeez and i do not like what i see.

what's funny is i'm sure the quality is fine, but i'm hard pressed to think of another example where resale is so far below retail. maybe faconnable.

St. John. I can't figure it out for nothin. I know there are some pieces that do very well, but I've picked up some really cool looking pieces that I was sure would bring in $$$ and they sold for peanuts. Stopped picking that stuff up.

A month or so ago I was the first to a "New Arrival" cart at one of the Goodwill stores on my route. I found a new-in-the-box Willow Tree Nativity Set. My wife has been after one of these for a long time and always tells me to keep an eye out. This was marked at $5. I grab it and put it in my cart. I call my wife to tell her the good news and she is thrilled. I see the manager walk by so I ask her "I found this Willow Tree Nativity Set on the last cart that came out. Is there a way you can check in back and see if there are any more Willow Tree things that will be coming out?" She then snatches it from my cart and says "Oh! That's not supposed to be out there! That was supposed to go to our e-commerce site.". She then takes it away into the back room. I was so shocked by what happened I was pretty much speechless. 15 minutes later, she says "I know you wanted it so I put it up in the case if you still want it".
They repriced it at $50. :brick: :fu:

Wouldn't this be considered price gouging? And isn't that illegal?

Gouging is different. It's increasing the price because demand has spiked because a critical commodity has become temporarily rare, usually as a result of a natural disaster. Think gas or tree removal services in the aftermath of a storm.

However, this does violate at several handfulls of common law and consumer protection laws. It's very, very, very impermissible, and I would very, very, very much have called them on it.

Footnote: I've also been very, very, very unsuccessful in achieving a positive outcome by doing so. Other than venting my own anger and making a scene.

Case closed, thank you all, and thanks for the close up picture. (I couldn't find a good one.) Now I know what to look for.

Eddigreen that bnwt Canada Goose find is amazing.i have never found one and I live in Canada wtf!

I saw one once in someone else's cart, but it stung less because from the size of it, it was a woman's small or kids.

It most likely is a reasonable amount; depending on condition and the features. I would spend a lot of time on the watch forums reading up on the watches before you make a purchase. Similar to clothes in this forum, there are lots of details that make the difference in watches. Omega makes a variety of watches, from $1500 quartz versions to $700,000 diamond covered ones; the second hand market varies just as widely as well. The number of complications, if it's automatic vs wind, open case vs closed all are major factors.

That being said, I'd most likely pass on that watch...at that price you're getting into the used Speedy price range; a far more better looking watch in my opinion.
