The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Part II (Return to the Thunderdome) - Page 2541

Does a $3k jacket marked down to 3 figures count as a thrift? Nope. Bragging anyway.

I've wanted a Margiela 5 zip for years. A great deal at Ssense plus my enabling wife finally made me do it.

Found this on another thrifting thread on another site. No idea about the validity of it but it does make some sense.

"The following information came from a 20 yr plus working relationship with Buena Vista home video (Disney's home video arm) The video cassettes that are available now at most thrift stores with a black diamond and the word classics is a category called Diamond classics. True Black diamonds were released by Buena Vista Pre-1987 these were oversized cases made of a hard abs plastic with High grade cardstock inserts, the side spine has a black diamond with the Walt Disney Signature in the diamond. These were v.i.p. copies that were sent out to vips, some celebs and certain Execs. If any of these show up on the open market these will go for 100's if not 1000's. depending on the title, Most were less than 1000 copies released they will not have any barcoding other than a lot code and a Qa code. Some years ago there was a poorly written article that conflated diamond classics with black diamonds., The author quoted a active listing for a diamond classic Beauty and the Beast and called it a black diamond. Shortly after that 1000's of diamond classics were listed on Ebay as Black diamonds and a whole lot of misinformation was taken as fact. I have included the one photo i could find of a front of a Dumbo I could find no pics of the side. It will be a black diamond with the Walt Disney Signature inside the diamond. Happy Thrifting everyone"

I would buy that except the top "selling" ones aren't the true Black a Diamond VHS's. The ones that are true black diamonds still only sell for a couple hundred at most.

And this was a BO, so probably less than that.

I think it's safe to assume the ones selling for thousands and thousands of dollars are ones the sellers buy themselves to try and drive up the price. Simple supply and demand shows that this doesn't make sense. Every house in America had Disney VHS movies in it, and how many collectors are there? A few here and there, anyone that buys a VHS tape for $18,000 needs help or is trying to drive up the price.

Kiton 100% cashmere suit. Sadly it doesn't fit. Pics when I get home.

I've made friends with the woman who does the media at the thrift by my work -- she's pretty impressed by my freelance journalistic pursuits, it seems. She calls me when she gets jazz.

$12

I'm not exactly sure chest wise for PRL stuff. I'm a 15.5" collar and usually a 40R jacket if that makes sense.

You're a gentleman and a scholar, sir.
