The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Part II (Return to the Thunderdome) - Page 2240

My UK items I picked up yesterday:

Wool blanket throw by A Shetland Product for W. Bill London.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Aquascutum silk with fox hunting scene.  (My user name is a famous 1805 case, "Pierson v. Post", where a dispute ensued over who legally owned the fox killed in a hunt.  I think I'll wear it to my meeting with my Property professor).

T.M. Lewin silk.

Blackwatch by Kinloch Anderson Scotland.

Sorry mate, a lot wrong with that. Most obvious being the patch is way wrong and as far as I know, nothing is made in France.

Mostly agree, except that Shibumi ties are much more affordable than that.

Hober has the best detailed description of the various grenadine weaves -- at least those they carry -- How they are loomed etc that I've found online. https://www.samhober.com/grenadine.htm
I don't think this is every grenadine weave. I believe there are others; in fact, I think the term is generic for any fabric of woven silk in an open weave made on a jacquard loom in Como. The ties I have in mind meet that standard: they are gauzy and translucent, but the weave pattern is different from grossa or fina. I can't say for sure whether they come from Como or not, nor whether they were made on a jacquard loom, but I can say Nils and Benedikt are awfully close to their sources and pretty trustworthy, and they're not the only ones calling that weave grenadine. And it meets all other criteria.
This shouldn't be a controversy. They're pretty ties and who cares what they're called. If we don't want to call them grenadine I don't much care. My only point is it's entirely possible they are.
