I was in NYC over Valentine's Day weekend, which was bitterly freezing and windy, so that wasn't a ton of fun.  Ate and drank plenty of great food and stayed at an Airbnb (thrifty) on Bowery sandwiched between the LES and Soho.  Hit a couple of thrifts and found tons of fodder type stuff, most of which I left.  Highlights were a Mission Workshop merino blend hoodie (http://missionworkshop.com/products/apparel/merino-wool-pullover.php) which does quite well "over there," a few ties for myself, and as I was leaving saw a Nest new in the package behind the counter.  Figuring it would be crazy expensive, I inquired and was told only $40, so I snatched that right up and listed on Amazon.  It sold that night for $190.  Great thrifting city, suits are priced brutally, probably worse than LA.  The Housing Works in Tribeca is also great if you are looking for personal stuff, passed on tons of stuff that would have been worth it for personal grabs; Stephan Schneider knits for ~$45ish, Sid Mashburn for ~$30ish, mint Zegna shirts for $20, and its a hop, skip and a jump from the best wine store in the world, Chambers Street Wines.

I have to say that in Goodwills, that has not been my experience. I found most were around $25. I pulled a solid navy Turnbull & Asser suit from 2013 in my size in great condition for $15. However, for other stores, I agree.

And heck yes, great thrifting city. Absolutely awesome.

In LA almost all suits at Goodwill are $25 (in the 3 Goodwills I've visited anyway).
