The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Part II (Return to the Thunderdome) - Page 1911

Is this like some modern H&M trash or a rare Nike prototype windbreaker from the '70s? Didn't buy it so I suppose I'm hoping for the former.

USA down puffy jacket. Baby blue, idk...

Mid-century architectural drawings. Really liked these but don't currently have a cabin to put them in...

Eazy, while I love the fit on your DB, it's a totally different aesthetic than the one I think Purp is going for. It's pretty common for a db to have a little pulling at the button point. I don't think Purp's over does it. For right off the thrift rack, I think it's a good, modern (if a tiny bit fashion forward) look for purp. He's a younger guy, seems to be in decent shape. Why not wear it a teency bit tight and short. My own personal tastes trend more toward Eazy's, but I think Purp's works.

Dude I totally want your Polo RL tie but I fear you're in the US anyway, and you probably want to keep it :/

4 stores and only one buy today. Just a tie, but a pop is a pop right? Definitely the nicest ancient madder I've ever felt.

Not sure what I'll do with it, but I can't say no at that price.

Speaking of Hickey Freeman earlier, I found this HF Alpaca and Wool Sport Coat.

This isn't gun check.  Is it Houndstooth?  See the little square looking things have a toothy edge.

@SpooPoker how would describe this in the listing title?

Record pickups included Stan Kenton's West Side Story record.

Anonymous-ish pickup?

I mean, they're shell Aldens. I knew that from a mile away. But insides aren't in the best shape, so I can't tell sizing.

Spotless uppers and full re-sole recently, tho.

The length is similar to a pair of 10.5 Edgar Pomeroy slippers, so .... 10.5?

I'm wearing a pair of Alden Shell Tassel Loafers right now.  They are 11.5C if that helps you figure out the size. They measure 12 5/8" (on the bottom of the outsole from toe to back of heel) and 4.25" wide at the widest point.

Nice shoes too.  Alden shell even with some slight interior wear is still a brag!  If they measure the same as mine, hit me up!  :hide:

It looks like you have no room to breathe and if you move your arms the shoulders are gonna burst ad the seams.

@eazye
's picture = look at the shoulders, stop perfectly symetrical with his free hanging arm, and if he were to lean against a wall the jackets shoulder and his arm would meet together and hit evenly.

PL picture= Your shoulders are hitting that wall and that seam isn't comin very close to it. If your going for the fast fashion/trendier look then that may very well be your intent and if so then go for it, I'm all for people having their own personal sense of style and what they feel expresses them the best, however in a classic sense, that jacket is too small...In My Opinion of course..

I'm still learning the art of classic menswear, but if you're a size 38 chest, you wear a 38, no? Forgive my ignorance, but I'm not sure I follow it being a fashion forward choice.

It's a modern look and you pull it off well, classically it may be to tight, but slim fit is a great look for us slim young guys icon_gu_b_slayer%5B1%5D.gif

This is fun, interesting, and what most of the rest of StyFo is all about. But I'm not sure this is the right place for this level of depth of discussion on this topic. I enjoy thrift fits, and the odd "I'd tweak this" or "This looks great" I think is totally appropriate. But what's happening here is we're straying into a more fundamental discussion about CM aesthetics, and it is often unresolvable. Each of PLs and Eazy's fits hit the mark on a different aesthetic. PL's jacket is definitely more fitted, but the hems make an even line, and the verticals are vertical. Leave the sleeves alone. The hem is below his ass and at the top of his inseam. All of the same is true of Eazy's fit. They just aim for a slightly different aesthetic. Neither is wrong, neither right. Some like one more than another. Personally, I'm not a fan of pants hems that hit above the shoe top. Others wear their pants that way exclusively.
Fortunately, there's room in the sartorial world for variety.
Even more fortunately, there are a bazillion threads here on StyFo where people yell at each other about these tiny, minute differences until they're blue in the face so we don't have to. Because this isn't one of them.
Anyway, just my two cents.

I dunno if you are quoting me with the fashion forward part, but if so, to be clear, I said fast fashion/trendy clothing, stuff places like Zara sell, much much different than fashion forward. And a size 38 chest means your a size 38 chest, jackets are cut differently, silhouettes differ, shapes, proportions, structure, etc.. from brand to brand, gotta buy what fits well and allows for some comfort although I do understand sometimes this comfort can be forfeited a little in efforts of achieving a certain look, I'm certainly vain enough to have made that choice a tremendous amount of times, nothing against that at all. If you like it rock that shit, is it classically styled? No. Is it your style? Yes? Than fuck it. I was saying that I agree w/ a fellow thread members original feelings and  just pointing out how that in the classical frame, that would not be considered a well fitting garment.

Edit: Never mind, you were not quoting me with the fast fashion thing, my mistake.
