The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Part II (Return to the Thunderdome) - Page 1751

I went to an estate sale that I thought might generate some of these awesome finds that have been posted the last few days.

Instead I found an Oxxford Suit and a nice Oxxford Cashmere SC.    Both good finds in my book.  But, so much lower than my expectations.

One thing that shocked the hell out of me was this house.   It was insane.  It isn't my taste and its hard to see in these crappy pictures. But, these folks spent some serious money decorating the way they wanted to.

This was a room off the kitchen and off the master bedroom.

This next picture is the same room with a view into the kitchen

This is the kitchen below.  Yes, really its the kitchen.

The tons of naked bulb lights screwed up the pictures.

Below is a view in the same room.   This is not a mirror.  It is glass that looks into the master bedroom.

Here is the Master Bedroom

BUT,  something I found has me VERY interested.

SO, Furniture guys, I need an opinion.

I found 3 side tables that are allegedly made by Jens Risom.  A Sandanavian designer who created Danish Modern furniture.    When I googled him, I was pretty amazed.

Here are the three tables:

And here a listing for one just like it (or similar)

One thing I am concerned about it is that there is no maker's mark.  But, I haven't been able to find ANY of his stuff that has a mark.

Should I be going back for these.  They were about $500 each.  There may be a discount tommorrow.  Do I need to get there as soon as they open and buy these OR does anyone want me to proxy them for someone?

The seller had printed off a listing (which I can't find) where the same table was for sale for $3200.

Yes. With massive drapes that hung from ceiling to floor. They were so thick and heavy I can't imagine how much they cost.

The drapes reminded me of something you would see in a renaissance castle. There was a massive carved throne too.

Re: the group membership, I've occasionally been aggravated to only find info at 1stdibs or artnet, but not to the point of wanting to sign up.  I would be surprised if either of them would be OK with multiple IP addresses using the same account to look stuff up - same as Microsoft is not OK with you buying a single license for Office and then installing it on 100 PC's.  I then thought "what if we pick one person to be the look-up guy", but that would only be good after the fact, and not while I'm in the place looking at something and need to know now.

Speaking of extravagance, I went to a live auction a couple weeks ago just to take a look-see.  It was mostly gaudy gold / gilt stuff, and I only stayed about an hour, long enough to page thru the catalog...but during that time the same bidder won everything that came up.  Quick math told me they spent around $100k in that one hour.  Little old lady sitting all by herself - if I was better looking I would have tried to get me some of that GILF action.

Double post...

Got this en route:

From the specs, reviews I read, & video reviews I watched, it can't be beat for the price.  Jazzed.

"If I could suppress my gag reflex while lapping the dried out and dusty lap of luxury" might have been more apropos.
