@ejay1  there is a big misconception among this thread about functional/surgeon/working cuffs.  Whatever you want to call them, they are used for a purpose.  Yes, most tailors will shy away from shortening and/or lengthening functional cuffs.  The proper way is to shorten via arm hole, however, fitting an 8" circle (arm hole) with a a 6" circle (sleeve hole/head) will never work (not sure if that analogy was the best).  Our arms naturally "taper", hence, why it is very difficult to shorten via sleeve head.

HOWEVER, I recently met a tailor who takes a creative  and a more economical route.  He essentially removes the cuff button hole stitching and is able to shorten/lengthen without having the jacket sleeves look funny.  He's done this to a few of my found SC's and they look great.  I hope I explained that right but PM me and I can send you his contact info depending on where you live.

Dear thriftmasee:

You should receive two boxes from me. It looks like one or both were delayed a couple of days en route but should arrive today. Also I stupidly forgot to include your card, so I'll say here: merry Thriftmas!

Craigslist find.  Guys clearing out an old warehouse giving this away free.  I figure "Eh, I need something to put a TV on. I'll grab it why not."

After dragging it home.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Checking the details

Cracked leather pulls... leather?  What is this thing?

Oh man, this is legit old.

OH SHIIIIIIT

Cleaned up and put to good use.  Has some damage, so not in the best condition, but to have a legit Knoll Credenza for $0 feels right good.  Even with the damage it should bring a decent lump sum if I sell it.

First Isaia item ever:  a tie.  Also, an odd, presumed Brook Brothers tie with a Loch Ness monster??  The tipping fabric has the golden fleece image woven in. No keeper or other tags.

Definitely Brooks Brothers, not sure which line but if I had to guess I'd say Makers line.

Quick thanks to Linda - failed to mention the cashmere part in the listing title...

So this weekend I learned that @Beeare is a swell guy. Went up to the valley to hit a few stores and to exchange unofficial-not-100-posts Thriftsmas gifts. Really happy about mine. Scottish cashmere argyle sweater, Zegna tie, Italian leather belt. Love all of it. Wife used the C word to describe the sweater. Yes, Cosby. Needless to say I disagreed.

We hit 4-5 stores in the valley. After about 20 minutes in the first store I could hear Jompso in the back of my head, whispering "you're probably ponderin that Pierre Cardin pinstriped orphan cuz you're thriftin the valley." Did not kop, but looked hard for the pants. Wish I had photographed, as it was much better than all others I've seen. Think we did OK though. A few English ties: Silver, Liberty, Rooster

A few belts. Coach x2, trafalgar, D&B wool surcingle

NWT PRL

Icebreaker, long sleeves, but not long enough for me

Michael Bastian cords, short inseam

Polo Country jacket with flaws that I missed. Ugh.

Pendleton jacket. Gotta like having both elbow and shoulder patches.

And some tassels. Polo croc and Ferragamo
