The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Part II (Return to the Thunderdome) - Page 1610

@HansderHund great start to your son's future! Some folks in my family used to do similar - when I turned 18 I was given quite a few shares of Gulf Oil stock that an uncle had bought for me when I was born and for several years after. It had split a few times and was bought out by BP. Of course I did the responsible thing and cashed it in and bought a 1967 Firebird convertible with 400 engine. And that's why you wait until the kid is 30 to give it to them!

Ummm no, then they would use it on something lame like bills or food. You did the right thing.

Couple off topic questions/requests.

1. If anyone has dealt with vehicle importation please let me know. My situation would be pretty cut and dry (over 25 y/o and from the UK) but would be nice to talk to someone with first hand experience.

2.

Espresso Machine Guys - Insight and Flip Talk (Click to show)
Was looking for a bit of a project, and general knowledge building and loved the posts on the espresso machines from a few others.

I ran across the below machine on CL.

http://louisville.craigslist.org/app/5326366583.html

Based on his high price expectations I could likely talk him down a bit but I'm really not sure on two items.
1. I've talked to him and the valve in question is the three way solenoid valve, which according to him should be an easy fix, but the Pasquini website deems it a 5 out of 5 fix. Has anyone messed with one of these machines before and could lend some insight?
2. While it would be fun to work on a use it a few times, I couldn't realistically justify keeping it. While I love a good espresso I don't drink it enough to not sell. However these machines seem to go for anywhere between $300 and $800 pre-owned on the Bay. Is there someone that is key to these that I am missing that dictate the variance? It seems like some identical machines are going for much different prices.

I greatly appreciate any guidance.

And since I haven't posted pictures of anything (mainly because I haven't been able to thrift much lately) here is a Hartmann Belting Garment Bag I picked up today. Much higher price than thrift (consignment) but looks like I've got a ton of margin left on it.
