The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Part II (Return to the Thunderdome) - Page 1520

Evening fellas. Managed another quick dash in to some charity shops today as they were closing (annoyingly). I scoped out two potential buys and will go back to the shop first thing tomorrow if they are worth picking up...

First, an awesome silk/wool/linen sport coat by Magee. Seriously awesome colours. Would totally wear it but it's a 40 UK. £15 on the tag. Think it was in perfect condition and side vents. Worth a punt?

Second, a navy pinstripe Lanvin suit. Didn't have time to study it or see the size. £30 on the tag makes me think I should pass. Any thoughts?

Thanks again. I've had lots of PMs and replies on here helping me understand what things are worth so thank you. Really great thread smile.gif

If it's current Lanvin that is/was made in France or Italy (I believe Caruso does Lanvin, but I may be wrong) then go for it. If it's older, vintage Lanvin, then it's licensed and definitely not worth picking up.

Caruso does Lanvin but I've also seen pieces made by Pal Zileri (edit: and Mabro as well after some ebay searching). Either way Jompso's right. Pick up the recent Italian-made stuff and leave the older licensed stuff.

My vote would be for embossed calf.

When I was researching my recent grab, I saw that Scott's website is chock full of people posting pics of jackets and asking, and every one had a response from Schott detailing what decade(s) they could narrow it down to. If you care enough, go post there.

They seem to have a pretty active community forum over there, and a good back catalogue of discontinued items as well. The Schott I just found is no longer available, so I had to do a bit of research and finally found it in the community section of the site.

Gold seems to be a silk/wool blend. They are both real nice.

They look fantastic.

Absolutely! Schott is great about answering questions from people about their garments.

Heresy! It's too early! lol However, I must admit that my Thriftmas box is glaring at me from a shelf above my wrapping and packing station. It's tempting...
