Hey! I'm looking for something for my father for Christmas. I'd love to get him something in the style of Frederick Remington. If you run into something like this while you are out and about, please let me know as I'd be happy to proxy. Doesn't have to be the real deal, just a reasonable facsimile would be fine.

NOS pointer coveralls. Are these desirable? I'm guessing no at $40...

Any of these?

Dude, I'll just tell you now, if you keep doing this, people are going to get pissed. There are two ways to figure out what is "desirable" or valuable in terms of ROI. 1. Read as much of this thread (and the older archived one) as you can. 2) download the eBay app, and use the search function, refine the field of return to "sold" items only.

But if you keep popping in to say, "Is this any good" people will get tired of it. it's okay to do that every once in a while once you've proved you know your shit, but just using the thread as a way to figure out how to make money, that's kind of a no-no.

Now, if you aren't worried about eBay, and you are just buying for yourself, I'd say buy what you like and what fits. don't worry about whether or not we like it. If you want to know you are getting quality, stick to the well-known English (Churches, Crockett & Jones, Alfred Sargent, Edward Green), Italian (Bunches), and American (Alden, Allen Edmonds, Rancourt, maybe Footjoy and Hanover's older stuff) makers.

If you are trying to figure our what is in style, I'd say stick to the classics. Longwings, Split toes, Cap toes, Wingtips, Brogues, Pennies, Tassel Apron Toes, Drivers. Those never go out of style. Better yet, go to the high end stores and see what they are selling both in terms of brands and styles. Go to Brooks Brothers, Allen Edmonds, Alden if you have one available to you, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue.

Just bought a pair of Alden's at a thrift...lady at the register says "You got the last pair - aren't they nice?" And I was "Wat?" She says a guy brought in about a dozen pairs but they all sold already except the pair I got. Arrrrgh!

Oops. I picked a bad time to ask if I should cop something. I have tailored Rubinacci in my cart if that makes me look any better.

Believe it or not, the Cole Haan Bragano series has somewhat of a following. I usually get between $30-50 for them. I never buy them at consignment stores. But, they bring good margin if you can get them at true thrift pricing.
