So, @Rosenrot just started the new SW&D challenge, and all of you should join. Because it is nuts.

Well at least in Tokyo I assume you get paid salary that somewhat matches the cost of living.. In Seoul you won't ever get paid enough for its obscene cost of living.
Office jobs are screwed, IT jobs are screwed, so all the smart folks are now moving to medical area which is also becoming an underpaid red ocean.
I'm working in a public sector for now so I can get by with steady paycheck as long as I don't spend $$$ on clothes, but most people in their mid~late 20s living in Seoul are pretty much fucked unless their parents handed them few buildings to live off of.
And the president here is saying that the cost of living is too damn low in Korea -.-

Using a bit of hyperbole there smile.gif But... rent, transportation, and eating out are all relatively cheap in Tokyo. Assuming you're not buying French cheese like Aux above, groceries are quite reasonable thanks to huge subsidies to domestic agriculture. (tip: Chilean wine has the least tariffs)

Ugly, small apartments are another issue altogether. Starting salaries for very qualified positions (engineers, accountants, etc.) is usually sub-30k for 60 hours of work a week - that's why everyone lives in a box and eats out of the convenience stores over here.

Damn I can't really imagine sub 30 k living in Tokyo. Must be a real struggle life

sheeeiiiitt I wouldn't mind paying $18 for a camembert sometimes if that meant I could get an unpasteurized one. Best I can hope for here is an export-grade Le Rustique
post #7883 of 13758

to be fair, rent and commute is also usually covered or at least subsidized by most Japanese companies, which makes that 30k go a lot farther

I fully believe to be a successful politician, you need to be too incompetent to work in HR.

The local city council co owns 90% of all building plots (together with the government) and are selling them at a premium, while scream at the real estate world for being greedy and not building enough affordable housing, when they are actually the primary reason. They want $1450 a sqm of building right and for an affordable housing scheme to work all in cost can't surpass $3500, which is impossible for new construction here.

Basic flannel shirts put out by Everlane, no button down collar. Collar actually looks long and wide, too. Hallelujah!

Big question is will the net effect on white vans be positive or negative? White vans are fucking great
