Random fashion thoughts - Part II (A New Hope) - Page 418

Thought I'd throw this in here for all you miscreants:

As some of you may know, a contingent of the Styleforum team to going to be in Paris (January 19-26) this winter.  @Synthese and I, as well as Jen (my wife and the person who keeps my ideas semi-sane) and our photographer, Eric, will be doing store features and reviews, going to all the tradeshows our little brains will allow without explosion, as well as private show room visits.  We'll also have a guy who can actually take real photographs (wow), as well as a fluent French speaker (Jasper) as well as a guy who spent his childhood speaking French for much of the day (moi) but who is really rusty, and whose passable French will probably improve as the week progresses.

I'd love to hear from you guys.  is there a store you'd be really interested in seeing the insides of, any particular brand you'd like us to visit, any specific project you'd like turn into a GMTO, any rerelease you'd jump on like a fat kid on chips, because you missed that excellent piece and are now beating yourself over with reverse buyer's remorse?

Cheers,

Fok.

If you haven't been following Mister Mort on Instagram (his posts consist of interesting outfits on the streets of NYC or things that are very Jewish), he's in Aspen this week. It's basically an endless stream of:

The short answer is probably not. The thing that most people fail to consider is the money value of time (see what I did there, finance majors). If you want to want to spend endless hours searching for mispriced flights or determining which frequent flier program will generate the highest yield, that's fine. But that come at the expense of the time you spent not being spent on something else, presumably browsing SF.

Probably the thing I've learned the most from having children is the premium you learn to put on free time. It's the most precious resource I know.

Aspen is the worst place on earth. Fok should fly jet out so he can spew enough hate to power a small country

I went to Aspen for a weekend when I lived in Denver. Well, I went to the hot springs like an hour away and we decided to go check out Aspen. It sucked. I got talked in to going again around Christmas in 2013 because "it's amazing at Christmas!", it wasn't, at all.

this is smart. its cheaper for me to hire a plumber than to try and fix something myself at my bill rate

@LA Guy Maybe a GMTO chesterfield or overcoat with AMI? Something out there with Dries (5)? If you could get access to any of the ateliers or workshops that would be interesting. While people may bemoan the downfall of Margiela, SLP, etc. it would be cool to see how their 1 of 1 type pieces get produced. Kinda like how the CM people get the bespoke experience write ups.

Interview Fuuma.

@LA Guy L'Eclaireur Rue Herold is my favorite boutique in the world, by a very large margin, at the moment. It might be interesting to do a comparison of the different L'Eclaireur locations (Champs Elysee - think hoards of asian tourists, Herold - ccp, bbs, layer-0, deepti, harnden, Sevigne - has cool stuff like Taichi Murakami, Ziggy Chen, but is also where Yeezy drops...).

Palais Royal is also the OG Rick Owens store, though it probably doesn't differ from other locations by much except for the decadent location.

Hopefully some others can comment on the more CM stores as I wish I knew more about those.

I never made it inside, but I remember some people said the department store Colette is pretty cool.

Was there some small shop that carried Forme d'Expression in Paris?

I recall @Synthese saw a French brand at Pitti Uomo doing really high quality French "basics". If you could check out their base of operations that would be very interesting.

I am out of fashion ideas for Paris. Really all I do there is eat...

Oh and @RegisDB9, you were looking for a place that had these right? http://en.cottonclubshop.com/man/shoes/sneakers/ws0256-101.html

I think that basics brand was De Bonne Facture.

Hey @Fuuma, you down?

It would be interesting to do something with AMI.  I have zero idea whether or not they do collabs, or whether they have insane minimums - I've heard people tell me that I need to buy 100 pieces to meet the minimum, and then it's like "Never gonna happen" - but worth a shot.  I wonder if people would be interested in a Geller bomber re-release (I like the 2011 version with the straps) or maybe that nylon one Robert himself always wears, or maybe that one short jacket from Schneider, from Frozen Waves, that no one seems to actually own.

It's really nice.  I was wondering whether people would be interested in old school workpants or something.  I think that they work with Hervier on theirs, so...

It's funny, because all the people I know from Colorado seem to hate Aspen, but when I think of Colorado, I think immediately of a ski lodge in Aspen.  And I have never been, but I picture it as full of rich white guys wearing cable knit sweaters and Moncler jackets and executive silver hair, and thin blond women with gym toned bodies and expensive athleisure clothing and fur vests, all drinking... whatever it is that people like that drink, and talking about their stock portfolios or whatever.

That's exactly how I picture it, I'd fit right in I think.

Ahh Geller bomber? Yes please, if you're talking about the grey tercel bomber then he'll yes (but make 54's please). AMI is cool, still not many people pop into that thread but SF could maybe push him to do more of the cool stuff and less of the boring stuff. A brand his size twitch that growth rate I feel he must have a lot of pressure to move units and make safe things, he could very well love the chance to make a smaller run of cool shit.
Also, the next door seems like a really dope shop, although I'm not sure if it's in Paris or somewhere else. www.thenextdoor.fr
