Looks more '13 than '15, those rolled up boyfriend jeans were very popular a couple years ago.
Dunno, man. Of course the video's generalizing in a ton of ways, but both those looks (m+f) are still just about all you'll see in any "mall brand" store (or make up a good portion of it), and very much what averagely fashionable people are wearing. I think we've got a pretty skewed vision of what the masses are wearing.

@LA Guy once told me that men dress for the rest of their lives, the way that they did at whatever point in their life they were "really getting laid"

Which sounds about right tbh (apologies if you didn't actually say that and it was someone else)
I don't remember that, but it sounds liks some **** I would say, so I'll own it.

For some reason--the video went from what the 1% bright young thing "yuppies of the age" of the 20s, 30s, and 40s were wearing...to what the rebels (not 1%, not "yuppies of the age") of the 50s and 60s were wearing (greasers, beatniks, mods, etc.)...to what the self-styled fashionistas were wearing in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, onwards.

In other words, the video is full of popular cliches--as depicted and glamorized in the movies of the last 100 years---and not really a reflection of fashion trends.

My thoughts exactly when I first saw it.

I can assure you that youtube video did not depict what the "masses" were wearing in the 20s and 30s.

2000 onwards, however, there is a larger discrepancy between what's in that youtube clip and what's on theatre screens...perhaps reflecting the emergence of alternative media challenging movies in setting what's prominently remembered as cool...
Well...yeah, but I really just meant the 2015 looks. Those trends certainly aren't dead.

Tiny, with narrow shoulders and typically very trim sleeves.  I've tried on a lot of it, and owned one jacket, and always had to go up a size to 48 and even then the sleeves were SNUG, and I have no arm muscles.

Unless of course the piece looks deliberately oversized

Pieces I have are relatively tight but still true to size.

In 2000s I was in my minimalist-architect phase.

What are you into now?

I wonder if there's a history of architecture type class I can take or book I can read

"stop making sense"

While it's nice to see a look that is fully integrated (Ivy/Trad should = penny loafer + flat front chino + saddle shoulder knit + ocbd, etc), why not an eclectic, mash-up approach? Same with music, interior design, etc. So bust out your metal tee, bucket hat and those beefrolls.

for as much grumbling as i see about grailed, it is the only place where i can sell stuff these days. sufu's marketplace has been dead for over two years. sf's b&s has been dying for almost as long. of the past 20 items i've sold, 19 of them have been on grailed (often for my full asking price).

Yeah, whether you use the buzzword 'disruption' or not, Grailed is an example of someone creating a better way to do something than what was there before. Also has the added benefit of not being eBay. The scammers/lowballers unfortunately come with the success.

I've had no problems with the items I've sold there, and they've all gone for the asking price give or take a couple of drops (but I also often inflate original prices for that reason).

I feel like this is an item that almost all of SW&D can agree is awesome:

Taichi Murakami Heavy Jersey Jean Jacket (available at PN\P)
@LA Guy
@Synthese

I think I'm alone in having a 'meh' reaction to just about every Taichi piece I see.

...

That TV show Jersey Shore closed out the decade and I think that sort of killed that Going Out Bro look from the mainstream.

...

My city's club district on a Friday night begs to differ in a most offensive way.
