I dunno how good Cinque Terre actually is but I wanna Instagram it - lemme know if you go, I'll meet you out there!! (I heard it's just truckloads of tourists and t-shirt shops, though)

Parades in general suck, fairs that last for a week or two, even worst. Especially when it's held in a neighborhood where people actually live.

I believe Salone adds something like 300,000 visitors on top of the normal tourists.

I don't even want to think about how much the hotels in Cannes adds for the Golden Palms or Mipim.

The Cinque Terre is incredibly gorgeous. I was able to zip over there for 3 days while I was in Florence for classes, and it's amazing. The seafood is incredible, and was actually really affordable (and I was on a very fixed budget for the whole trip). And I mean, how can you beat walking through a mountainside vineyard, looking down, and seeing the crystal clear Mediterranean several hundred feet below you- but maybe 150 feet away horizontally?

There is definitely a bit of tourist action, enough that it's likely that you'll be able to speak english for everything regarding accommodations and some restaurants, if you want to. It definitely didn't have the same kind of commercialized vibe that lots of parts of Rome did (or even some of Florence) imo though. I guess I'm maybe not the best judge of how "authentic" my experience was, but I do know that it's a really beautiful place :)

Here, pictures! (No cool fashunz though)

ps- I did take all these myself, so it should give a sense of the elevation you can get to

diving 40 feet into perfectly clear water is super fun. wear shoes because those barnacles on the rocks are sharp as **** when you climb out

additionally: extremely sick rock formations

judge for yourself, maybe i'm the worst sort of tourist, but the food was great and all the scenery was very pretty

edit: these are pretty big if you click; also i apologize that i am not actually that good with a camera
