One thing to note is what the French term Moleskin isn't the same as what would be considered Moleskin in England.

French Moleskin (as used by Hervier/Junya and Le Labourer) is a dense heavy cotton that's lightly knapped - a bit like Katsaguri.

English Moleskin is a heavy cotton fabric, that is woven then sheared to create a definite short, soft pile on one side. It's much thicker and fluffier.

On Friday, I'll be crossing the Pacific for a month to attend my sister's wedding, as well as taking the opportunity to do some vacationing in Asia. I'll be hitting China, Thailand and Japan. I have to say, I'm particularly excited about going to Japan; I've wanted to visit that country since I was 13.

Does anybody have any recommendations for food, clothing stores/boutiques (SW or CM, I'm up for anything in this regard) or attractions in Hong Kong, Kyoto and Osaka? I believe that most of the Thailand leg has been planned out by my sister (the wedding will be there).

Some details:
- I don't mind the odd major attraction or shopping mall, but I like to explore different neighbourhoods and just wander around.
- I'm down for cultural-based attractions and activities.
- I'm looking forward to consuming as many different kinds and styles of Japanese food as I can while in Japan.

I've made a short list of things that I may want to check out for each city, but it's in flux. Haven't dedicated much time into looking up food for the Japan leg, but I'm keen on trying okonomiyaki in Osaka and I want to do my splurge dinner there. I'll only be in each city for three days; the bulk of the time will be spent in Thailand and mainland China.

Hong Kong:
Tim Ho Wan
Ding Tai Fung
The Coffee Academics

The Armoury
Tassels
delstore

Kyoto:
Kiyomizu-dera Temple
Fushimi Inari-taisha

Hanjiro Vintage

Osaka:
Harry Potter World
Exploring Denden Town
the Pokemon Center

Isetan
Hankyu
Ring Jacket

Any insight is appreciated!

Does anyone keep cedar products in their closets? Blocks, balls, satchels or whatever. Do they make a difference?

I feel like they would lose their smell rather quickly if kept in a walk-in closet.

Fwiw I found a pest in my closet today. First time so kind of paranoid. You know when I first read your post I was thinking that everything is going to deteriorate anyways. I have some very old cedar blocks and pouches. Probably time to replace, and launder some of my knits and coats. I found that SF tread in a Amazon rating comment while searching for new cedar blocks of all places. It's a bit informative toward the end. It's probably time for a thorough clean of the closest since moving in, too. I was using an external closet before that seemed to work fine. Now this closet space is dark and just packed full of clothes. Sort of disgusting..

Edit:
Try Hangers Project store for some options. I'm debating between pouches, hang ups, and/or cedar blocks.

Isnt it the same fabric, but the English version is brushed/sheared? I.e., the same dense twill.

Yes the weave is the same, and both are pretty wind and shower resistant. The shearing and brushing on the English version makes the fabric much warmer in that it traps air, but also makes for a less rigid garment. French Moleskin does hold it's shape better with wear.

Both are lovely. I wish I could find a good pair of straight leg black French moleskin trousers ...

Moths and related pests will **** your **** up. I lost a nice cashmere sweater to carpet beetles, looked like swiss cheese after they got to it.

You might wanna spot check your stuff and make sure that moth didn't put holes in anything.

Yes cashmere is like nectar for moths and beetles. I find Harris Tweed very susceptible too.

Silver pavilion was my favorite place in Kyoto. Try to go early when there's less people. all the unesco sites are excellent. Get some udon at a highly rated place on tabelog (Japanese yelp). Mindtrive is in Kyoto, multiple locations. So is vektor

Osaka: eat all the local specialties. A lot of stores, the one I remember is fascinate and The R. I can't remember others.

Apparently my friend takes boat from HK to nearby islands to try different restaurants because it's so convenient. There is a big mall that has lots of interesting stuff. Google giant panda statue to find it (unfortunately the statue was moved)
Ink is in HK

I really liked Fushimi Inari in Kyoto. Part of the Nike Gyusakou "running monks" commercial was filmed there. Gion area is Kyoto is pretty nice too. Around 4 or 5 you'll see lots of people with cameras stalking the alleys and streets of Gion searching for elusive geishas (I guess this is around the time geishas leave their apartments for their appointments?). In any event, it's kinda dehumanizing and I felt pretty bad for the geishas.

@msg no hidden placket on that COS piece, no XL either anyway. Thanks for helping though.
Found the perfect one from Maharishi anyway.

If you have the time, it can be nice to make the day trip from Kyoto to Nara. The daibutsuden at Todai-ji is impressive and the deer around town are neat to interact with (although they get annoying after awhile). Lots of cultural stuff, although not much shopping. It may not be worth it if your schedule is tight.
