Both are Jasper's.  It's mostly his article, with a couple of late entries from me.  I was just having fun and sending some examples.  No idea they would make it to print.

I was hoping that article was a lot longer, love those type of pieces. Thought I would scroll down to see SLP, Rick, Margiela etc

This article just brought some existential questioning and has allowed me to realize that John Meyer wasn't James Franco who wasn't the asshole I saw while watching 15 mins of an awful movie called suicide squad (Jared Leto). I am not sure what I'll do with this newfound knowledge.

Watch aficionados are the menswear equivalent of foot fetishists.

I make a lot of these comments but if you think about it someone like @gdl203 is a watch guy and he's probably the most level-headed and polite on SF, I mean he stayed polite on the CE during the financial crisis, I'm pretty sure the dalai lama never managed that one.

-artisan fan: we must lower taxes to lift all boats, it will also resolve the conflict in Iraq and make climate change disappear.
-dalai lama: well don't you think that...
-artisan fan: blablalahrhgghghhg lower taxes, trickle my winkle!!! hghrhghgh!!
-dalai lama: fuck you you stupid fuck, I'm find you whever you are and slit your throat!!!!

i don't even strictly mean it as an insult, just they're both things that i can't wrap my head around at all, despite how common they are.

the one difference is that i don't really hold watch aficionados in contempt (and why would i?), whereas i abhor foot fetishists. those dudes almost universally have zero sense of tact or personal boundaries.

I find it fascinating that you actually know foot fetishists. How does that happen? Are they people you just "run into" in daily life? Are they everywhere? Has anyone alerted Trump?

Watches are just incredibly fascinating mechanical devices. I can't think of that many other things these days that function with mind-blogging precision, without any CPU or even batteries - simply powered by a wound coil that unwinds over 36-48 hours into a set of metal gears.

I'll do a part 2 for you soon, then.

Real talk: there is a fine line between self-deprecating humor and depressing reality, as there is between gentle mockery and outright dismissal.
