Yeah the EG zug above is from Ilcea, who won't make it anymore. Other makers use Zug from Horween, which I'm sure is still great. Just looks slightly different

I didn't know that I know they offer zugg from horween, Steve GFW just posted galaway made from horween zugg.

Yeah I was aware it was a different boot maker, but not a different leather source (mfg).  The Ilcea looks miles better IMO, but could easily be attributed to photogrpahy or finishing.

And I think I feel a little differently about the fit now. It's definitely less generous in the toe box, and shorter than the 804 in the same size. I also feel that the heel is tighter. So I think, definitely, don't size down for it. 8.5 it is for me (my normal size).

Thanks @ThunderMarch. I, too, went with the 8.5 after getting input from Lorenzo and I appreciate the confirmation.

Most welcome.
This gmto wouldn't have been possible without you guys really.

All I got my first bonafe from skoat (great service as usual). The black wholecut in last 946 style 3725. It's truly a beautiful shoe. Anyone keen to do a gmto on this last, I think it's a stunner.

Quite a few makers make boots from Zug actually, from different tanneries it seems. Cheaney makes quite a lot of boots in this material. I saw a very Galway-esque field boot in Zug from them a couple of years ago at a trade fair. This was just after our EG Heather Gorse/ZUG run.

Interesting, didn't know that the EG zug came from Ilcea. Not to be a dick, but was this information given to you directly from a retailer or EG? The reason I ask is another member and I have discussed this at length, with the other member saying the EG Zug in that previous run is from Horween, and me saying it's some sort of vintage leather.

It's a fair question, and I'm glad you asked. Because now that I think about it, I only really learned this from secondary sources, like reading SF and talking to other enthusiasts. It's possible my infuriation is simply heresay. Maybe someone more knowledgable like @Leaves can clear it up.

My understanding is that 15 pair run we did through Skoaktiebolaget was made with Heather Gorse/ Zug leather from Ilcea andthat was the last of that leather as Ilcea was not producing anymore. A representative of Ilcea on this forum confirmed this http://www.styleforum.net/t/338047/skoaktiebolaget-carmina-bonaf-carlos-santos-saint-crispins-gaziano-girling-official-affiliate-thread/3825#post_7321901

However Zug leather is also available from Horween through AA Crack leather leather merchants and my understanding is that this is the leather manufacturers use today.

I do not know whether Bonafe Heather Gorse/ Zug leather is left over supplies from the time Ilcea was producing this leather or whether Ilcea restarted the production of Heather Gorse/ Zug leather.

Thanks for confirming this. Lorenzo from Solegarb confirmed to me that Bonafe is using Horween zug.

Maybe I'm missing some context, but I didn't see confirmation in your link that the EG Galway zug was from Ilcea - only that EG used to purchase leather from them. Was there another post that explicitly connects the dots?

No there is no another post but that's what we were told by a retailer.
