Ikea - The Swedes have finally arrived in FL

Well, it's finally happened. We got our first Ikea last month. I know they've been around a while but I know nothing about their stuff. Most of what I've read is that it's cheap and poorly made. After reading the catalog they sent out, I have to say that they make a lot of cool looking shit, and the prices aren't bad either. Any recommendations of what's good and what to avoid?

Try to avoid the stuff made out of particle board. Look for real wood, or at least plywood. They do a lot of cool design work, and I have several Ikea chairs that I love. I also have a couple of dressers that I wish I didn't. Plus some bookcases in my kids' room, which is the right place for that kind of stuff.

What he said.

Go for the 8-pack of wood hangers, stay for the meatballs.

I can recommend the Poang chair. But DAMN prices have gone up 30%+ on that or I'm crazy.

I sure hope their concept is different there. Visiting Ikea is worse than any other establishment I've ever been to. On the positive side, after that you truly know how cattle feels.

The quality of the low-end things are really bad, but what can you expect for the price they charge?

Once you get to the more expensive furniture, the quality really improves. I think Ikea Stockholm is their top-end line and is made to higher standards than the rest.

Ligne Roset uses particle board in some of their upholstered pieces. In that light, IKEA is the only rational choice.
