Across the nation, students have risen up to demand an end to systemic and structural racism on campus. Here are their demands.

A sampling:
2. WE DEMAND free tuition for Black and indigenous students
5. President Martin must issue a statement to the Amherst College community at large that states we do not tolerate the actions of student(s) who posted the “All Lives Matter” posters, and the “Free Speech” postersthat stated that “in memoriam of the true victim of the Missouri Protests: Free Speech.” Also let the student body know that it was racially insensitive to the students of color on our college campus and beyond who are victim to racial harassment and death threats; alert them that Student Affairs may require them to go through the Disciplinary Process if a formal complaint is filed, and that they will be required to attend extensive training for racial and cultural competency.
1. Increase the percentage of full-time Black faculty and staff to 10% across ALL departments and schools, while prioritizing the following:

a. Anthropology, Heller, History, HSSP, Fine Arts, IBS, NEJS, Sciences, Sociology, and Theatre.

I tried google searching it but I have no idea what "Heller" is supposed to be. I didn't bother searching for HSSP, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome?) or NEJS.
6. Require a GE in ethnic, racial, and sexuality theory similar to at Scripps College
5. Departments that do not have womyn or people of color will be considered in crisis and must take urgent and immediate action to right the injustice.
1. Every Dartmouth student should be taught and made aware that the land they reside on is Abenaki homeland. This should take place during all major Dartmouth ceremonies, especially during orientation and commencement.
6. All male-female checkboxes should be replaced with write-in boxes to make forms, surveys and applications more inclusive for trans*, two-spirit, agender, gender-nonconforming and genderqueer folks. This should be a campus-wide policy.

It's depressing how little these kids know about the real world. How are they going to deal with not getting job offers if they can't even handle checkboxes for male and female?

People are generally self-centered, more so now than ever, making this a time and place where a liberal narrative is very appealing to the masses who aren't where they feel like they're entitled to be in life, and are looking for anyone to blame but themselves. Why accept responsibility for one's own shortcomings when one can shift blame. It's all by design and this behavior is encouraged. Of course the only way to fix it is to further empower a bureaucratic savior.

Can we merge this and the immigration thread? I am waiting for someone to tell me which university is Belgium.

I know beloit college only has like 10 black students total...but weren't groups that look like this being told they weren't allowed to have solidarity protests?

Also, is the guy on the right a white supremacist? How'd he get in the photo?

My first instinct was think that these demands are so preposterously PC that they had to be a joke. Unfortunately, I am probably wrong!

On the matter of hiring more black, Hispanic and Indigenous faculty, I was just talking to a friend of mine who is a senior faculty member at a reasonably decent liberal arts college in Southern California. He was remarked that they would love to hire more such people, but the few that are even remotely qualified get snapped up by more prestigious institutions.

Sounds about right.

Just like how my company has no qualms about hiring women for anything (and at some levels may have more good women employees than men) but has a notable lack of them at the very top level.

Its not because they don't want women... But the dudes at the top have all been there like 30 years and started with PhDs. There just weren't that many women coming out of top econ PhD programs back then (and the one we had has since retired). If we somehow wanted a bunch of them because someone complained about gender balance, it would be impossible to hire them. But give it another few years and it will be pretty even without anyone trying to force it.

A little Holiday cheer for the snowflakes,

University Students Comforted with ‘Counseling’ after Seeing Confederate Flag on Laptop

On the popular anonymous social media app Yik Yak, one student said the Confederate flag controversy was “legitimately embarrassing” and “someone is getting in trouble for such stupid bullshit.”

Another student disagreed and compared the Confederate flag to the swastika. Adding, “That’s the issue. In case you were somehow still confused in 2015.”

One anonymous student posted, “Carry a copy of the constitution tomorrow, see how fast the PC police emails fly.”

One student related the bias incident involving the Confederate flag to the Star Wars film

This is getting beyond absurd.

At least Harvard Law professors still know how to tell these bitchy little kids to htfu.

They shouldn't tell them anything. We're all young, and naive at some point. Let reality humble their asses too.
