SOLD -- thanks!

Carrot & Gibbs Glen plaid tuxedo vest
Handmade in Boulder, Colorado
All silk, shawl lapel (lapels and buttons are grosgrain)
Trademark buttons on the cinch in the back
Tagged a Large, it measures 22" from underarm to underarm

Carrot & Gibbs is primarily known as a maker of bowties, also makes wonderful silk vests. I saw several of their vests last week at Shaia's for $250.

Asking $50 delivered CONUS, Paypal please.

Very striking, it would be great for a wedding or the upcoming holiday season, a bit more interesting than the standard cummerbund option.

I had never seen one of these until two days ago when I found one and now we have two of them posted at once. This one is very nice, a touch more formal than mine, would you say?

I came across this one a couple of weeks ago, and considered keeping it. It's a little big, though, and I also don't have a sb dinner jacket to go with it. It is a bit odd that two would show up so closely together. The cut of this one is more traditional with a dinner jacket, but I think yours might also be fun with a charcoal suit for a festive event.

What are your thoughts on the question I got on mine. Would they be easy to alter for size?

I like this vest, but have a simple question
would this be appropriate with a SB peaked lapel DJ? or would the contrast between shawl and peaked look odd?
additionally, would it necessitate wing collar vs turn down?

TL, I believe it could be altered for size, but I can't say for sure. I've never had it done. You'd think it would be possible, though.

Doctor, I think that you would want the contrast between lapel styles. I don't think it would work with a shawl lapel dinner jacket. And I believe a turn down collar would be fine with it.

Edit: For a discussion of proper waist coverings for semi-formal wear (ie, tuxedo/dinner jacket) see here:
Quote:
The traditional evening waistcoat is identifiable by its low-buttoned design that is intended to conceal the trouser waist (thus its name) and the suspenders without obscuring the formal shirt’s elegantly decorated bib. It is also distinguished by the presence of lapels.

The formal waistcoat is acceptable in either single- or double-breasted designs with the bottom of the vest typically ending in two points that can be angular or rounded. It has a shawl collar with bottom edges that are also square cut or rounded. The most traditional style is the three-button single-breasted.[emphasis added, AC]

So the cut of the waistcoat above is traditional; the Glen plaid design certainly less so.
