Should I shorten this coat?

I didn't want to hijack Bresch's excellent bespoke Ulster coat thread, but I could use some advice on this RTW coat which I may end up keeping. Would you shorten it a bit? I usually take a short rather than a regular, but this regular coat doesn't seem particularly longer than in the Esky illustration in that other thread, but it is a bit longer (relatively speaking) than his real-life garment.

Would you shorten it? I'm in two minds.

EDIT - Final decision....

I think I'm going to leave it like this for a while and see how it wears. It the length starts to bug me, I'll shorten it; for now I've come round to thinking the extra length is rather fun.

Up to where? Just below knee? Or a bit lower than that?

I would shorten it so that it hits mid-calf.

Dude, your face is a stained glass window!

And yes, you should have the coat shortened.

Wow, pretty unanimous. I'm surprised. But I guess if you look too closely at a garment, you eventually can't see the wood for the trees and that's what happened to me here.

Thanks guys.

I would not. That type of coat should be long.

Maybe shorten the coat, but definitely shorten the pants.

Anywhere between a few inches below the knee up to mid-calf (maximum length IMO). I would personelly cut it to half-way between knee and calf

Something like this seems like the right proportions IMO:

Just below the knee.

It's swallowing you up right now at the current length.

I think it looks great as it is. But your face looks like a bug's compound eye.

I knew someone was going to say that. I don't want to get all drizzt about it, but they don't really pool like that IRL. The left leg in the first pic looks awful, but the side view shows the length isn't too bad. I suppose I could get them slanted a bit more at some point.

That must be why one minute the coat looks fine, and the next it looks long.

I personally prefer longer coats; the shorter coats that seem to be in right now look unnecessarily abbreviated to me.

That said, I think a truly long coat should be a solid navy and should have a very high top button placement... more like a St. Petersburg kind of look. I do think this coat looks a *touch* long given the pattern and style of the coat. I'd shorten it by 2-3 inches.

Don't shorten it too much... you might throw off the balance of those mighty lapels.

I LOVE the coat, it's fantastic.

If you're still torn by the decision, I think you should ask Optimus Prime's opinion.

I like it the way it is. I like my coats long, half way between knee and ankle. I wouldn't do it to just below the knee.
