The Superfly soundtrack was a sure bet to win an Oscar that year (1972). I can't recall the reason it was disqualified? I think one of the songs was written specifically for the soundtrack?

Interesting that The Crow soundtrack is being mentioned. I've actually never seen the movie or heard the soundtrack, but a friend of mine from high school - in fact, the only other Brad in my high school class - was the drummer and a founding member of Machines of Loving Grace who had a song on that album. After leaving that band, he owned a pizza parlor in Tucson for a while and played with some other bands. Last I heard, he was a drum rep in Los Angeles and DJing some club nights in Hollywood.
