I don't see a ticket pocket, but the one visual difference I do see are side tabs below the waistband, which make me wonder if the new ones have a slightly longer rise (hoping). Also, when staring at racks of suits, trying to differentiate "new" PL from "traditional" ($4k+) PL, look at the sleeve basting. The "entry" suits have one row of stitching which runs parallel to the sleeve itself, while the higher end ones have an "L" shaped basting.

According to the Barneys description, the above model has a 10.5' rise.

This older model has a 10.25' rise.

$80 then; I couldn't remember exactly. So slightly less diabolical.

0.25 inches seems within the margin of error, particularly if they are measuring it themselves instead of relying on manufacturer specs. Seems odd to lower the tabs, though, given that the trousers are supposed to sit pretty near the hip already.

Just returned from a trip to London. Dropped by Old Bond Street Ralph Lauren flagship store and I was informed of the same news - that the black label and purple label are merging together as purple label under Luxury line. Anthony/ Nigel, etc from black label will continue to exist and carried over to the new purple label.
Drake will continue to exist as RTW; and Savile Row will only be available as MTM. Not sure about Hollywood and other purple label suit cuts.

The stores are now clearing the existing stock; and immediate incoming suits will be as the merged 'new' purple label. I just picked up a 3 piece purple label suit - drake - and it no longer shows the tag 'custom fit' but instead it is sewn as 'Handmade in Italy'. I reckon this must be the new line. Anyone seen this?

The changes in labeling make a lot of sense for two reasons:

1. It provides a subtle differentiation between the different levels of PL (only the $4k+ suits will be "handmade").

2. I've always associated the term "custom fit" with the Polo line; perhaps there's a drive to differentiate from that?

3. If there's really only one RTW fit at that price point, then there's no reason to mark it as being either slimmer or more traditional, since those terms are only good for comparison's sake.

Is there a manufacturers tag? I've seen some recent RLPL SCs made by Cantarelli.

Yes, that is consistent with the news I have gotten. The old black label will be tagged as purple label. The old purple label will now have the handmade designation which will help clarify the difference in price point. I think this is moving in the right direction.

Seems like they're trying to emulate Zegna's model, which makes sense because as far as I can tell it is the only other company able to effectively mass market both $2k and $5k+ suits with minimal branding to differentiate the two and seemingly healthy RTW and MTM businesses.

Picked up an Anthony Gray Sharkskin suit last month for $539 at Chevy Chase RL store. Quite the amazing deal as they are clearing out the BL stock. Much cheaper to visit or call a store vice shopping online.

If you search the website for "Anthony Sharkskin" it shows both the remaining BL and the new PL Anthony versions side by side. New PL is $2495 retail compared to $1895 for BL. Not sure what the qualitative difference is.

Interesting as I believe sales vary depending on location. I was at the Mansion this past weekend and RLBL suits were around $700-$800. Interestingly, their PRL markdowns had no additional discounts while the PRL store on 5th had 50% off markdown prices.

I wonder if they price match themselves...

The prices seem to almost be set store by store. Within a weekend I purchased 3 pairs of identical flannel pants, 1 at the Mansion, 1 at the Newbury St Store in Boston and 1 online (different colors for each) and paid different prices for each pair.

They do price match but its a hassle and is almost embarrassing when you already got a good deal.

What is clear is that the stores that carry Purple Label (so mostly the headquarters and the larger stores) v. the 'Polo Stores' can have radically different prices and promotions to go along with their difference in decorum and target consumers.

I got my Anthony suit during the 30% off winter sale last month. Store price was $700 compared to $1300 online before discount. Likely cheaper for them to move store inventory through big sales than have to consolidate in warehouse later.

As a general rule I almost always call my SA before ordering online, he can almost always beat the price, the only problem is that their online inventory and their in-store inventory seems to be managed by different systems so unlike at Brooks Brothers where there is a cross check mechanism, there is none here.

Where is the best place to pick up the last remaining RLBL suits in NYC? Just visited the SoHo store and they only have black suits and tuxes left.

Call any Ralph Lauren store. They ship for free. Also there is a 25% off deal right now as well.
