I can't fill my gas tank?!?!

The price of gas where I live in Pa. is about $2.79- $3.00 per gallon. So, I go to fill my car with gas and the pump stops at $50 which doesn't fill the tank. Apparently, some gas stations in the area have this thing where they will have the pumps stop at $50 (I think because of theft?) but that's not enough to fill my tank. I tried to use the pump again but the attendant told me that once you hit $50 you can't use the same credit card twice.

Wow... I haven't heard of this. That's a bummer.

Well that is a flaw in the system. Maybe you could go to a truck-stop type station? I doubt that limit would be imposed on long-haul commercial gas buyers, because of the extra money it would cost them having to stop more frequently. So, if you could find a station by a highway maybe it would still let you fill up.

It's apparently an anti-fraud measure for stolen credit cards. You could use two cards as well.

It used to be that SUV owners mainly suffered from this, but with premium gas at $3.50 (California prices) these days, it's affecting more people.

I can't fill mine, either....but that's because I stop at $35 anyway.

Just dumped some premium in the Jag -- $3.06/gal, and though I also think the policy sucks, having to prepay if using cash annoys me even more. For it presupposes that I'm a crook.

Gas stations here are charging on average $3.16-3.19 for regular unleaded. Within a mile from my house, there is a Shell charging $3.24 a gallon for regular unleaded.

And gas is STILL cheap here compared to overseas.

Stop driving a Humscalade and stop bitching about $2.79 gas. I haven't seen prices like that around here since before Katrina.

Too bad its still a scooter and you still look like a dork riding it, no matter how much money you save on gas.

um... Good luck with my mom?

Though you probably won't need luck as much as you'll need earplugs and a hot needle for your eyeballs.

Get used to it. CNBC analyst this morning are predicting $100+ a barrel by the end of the year. We won't see an appreciable drop until 1. the US actually starts buidling refinery capacity and 2. the Chinese economy slows reducing demand for oil there.
