License Plate Makers.

Does anyone know where one could find a person who makes "custom" license plates? I know there are some at the Rosebowl flea market but I don't go there. One of the nagging things is the non-original contemporary white license plates my car has, which I'd like to get replaced with the original blue-yellow plates; it would make the car look much better. Now, California does have a Date of Manufacture law for cars and original plates but only for pre-1962 cars. However, there is a way to get around it--probably not truly legal--in that you purchase an "Art" license plate at the DMV and then bring that plate to the "artisan-metalworker" who makes you a new one but with the same numbers.

You really think you can get away with that when everytime I would park at LAX I would come back with a ticket for not having a front license plate?

There's a difference between not having a front license plate and having blue-colored plates.

I came by this information from people who have had this done and have never had an issue. In fact, some even use the old European Export plates on the front instead of the state plates and they've never even had an issue.

Yes, vintage-car enthusiast groups are rather useful especially if it's the Bristol Enthusiasts' Group.

I wish I had gotten the car in something like a Mustard Yellow with red leather interior instead of the red exterior and tan interior I have now. One of those characteristically funky and dated '70s colorways, magnificent if we could get the original car-phone with it.

You have a Bristol?

How many CA residents here have every been ticketed for not having a front plate. It only happened to me once, though I have gotten about 5 parking citations since moving here. My front plate is still sitting in my trunk.

One benefit of living in Georgia is no front plates. They take away from the lines of a car imho.

No, but I'm a member because I wanted to find a Bristol to buy in my area.

They're great looking cars and pretty rare on this side of the pond.

Knock on wood ... not yet. LAX however is notorious for front-plate ticketing, so if you want to drive there, and not drill holes in your front bumper for plates, try one of these plate holders that screw into the tow hook hole:

It's odd that these modern cars aren't designed with the front license plate in mind whereas certain older cars were.
