A big move is coming up for me. I will be leaving the beautiful Southland for colder climes. Would anyone be so kind as to recommend a capable tailor in Chicago or Schaumburg? How about some testimonials? Any experiences with custom clothing, difficult alterations, etc? In a city the size of Chicago I'd be lost if I tried to jump in on my own. Any thoughts?

Man up and get everything bespoke from Chris Despos from here on out. It's only money!

I second going with Chris. My experience with Chris's was fantastic and the bespoke suit he made for me is second to none.

For complicated alterations, I always go to Boguslaw on Oak Street.

For regular ones, I go to Tailor's Touch, also on Oak Street.

I personally like Peter Field for alterations. It's in the loop. Decent price and does a good job.

Welcome to town! If you're going to work downtown or close, that's your best bet for finding a good tailor. I've been very happy with Maria from Golden Needle and have used her for years. She is very busy and has increased her prices accordingly over the years (now charges roughly $150 for my usual alterations of taking in the back of the jacket and doing the sleeves), but knows what she is doing. I believe that @Patrick R said that Despos recommended someone on Oak Street (can't remember who) and Maria.

No experience with custom clothing in Chicago as I never hear recommendations for anyone other than Despos.

It may be closer to $125 for jacket only and $150 for a suit. Still very expensive, though.

You also have to keep in mind that I have fit issues where I buy to fit the chest and then have Maria take the back in on the side seams. She's much more reasonable if you are not asking her to open up the jacket and do major surgery.
