Hi guys,
i'm in the market for a new pair of black dress shoes. Budget is reasonably tight and therefore am looking at scoring myself a pair of black park avenues from EBay. The problem is that I live in New Zealand and have never seen AE sold anywhere here and therefore have no clue as to how the sizing runs.

I figure the best way to find my size would be to compare it to the ubiquitous Chucks. I currently wear a UK 11 in chucks and am wondering if that will transfer straight to the Park Avenues?

I have searched to see if there is a chart comparing sizes but have found nothing so far.

Any help with figuring out my size would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

US sizes are one size up from UK sizes (ie. UK11 = US12).

However, Chucks are probably a bad shoe to use as a comparator as they typically run a size too large (ie. Chuck 11 = UK 12 in everything else).

From my limited experience (trying them on in the store), AE runs fairly true to size so if you're a UK11 in every shoe you've ever bought then a size US12 AE should fit you fine.

There are so many sizing issues here.

You are in Aus which sizes like UK, almost everyone on styleforum knows their Chucks by their US size only.
I'm not sure of the Chucks own conversion between US and UK, it might be 1 size or 1/2 size.
Chucks also run large, I've found 1/2 size compared to other sneakers.
Then, everyone here also knows their AE size by their US size. I'm not sure whether AE converts to UK by 1/2 size or 1 size.
Also, I feel that AE runs 1/2 large. Other people disagree and think they run true.
Also when we talk about AE we are talking about dress shoe sizing, which is either 1/2 or 1 full size smaller than normal sneaker size. Which chucks aren't

So... your answer is in there, somewhere.

I don't know if this helps, but I wear a 9.5 Chuck Taylor and a 9.5C Allen Edmonds. The Chuck Taylor is a snug fit - the way I like it. The AE is an average fit - not too snug not too loose. So pretty much the same size, numbers-wise.

Interestingly, I wear 10.5s in most sneakers.

I would at least try to fit other brands of dress shoes instead of using Chucks as the benchmark. It could turn out to be one expensive trial and error run.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have noticed that chucks run large compared to other shoe sizes. The problem of course being that here in New Zealand (which is not Australia btw lol) dress shoes mentioned on the forum are basically impossible to find.

I think ill go size myself up in a standard dress shoe and see what I come up with. Sometimes its really frustrating living in a country which is basically as far away from everywhere else as you can get! The market here for these sorts of things just doesn't exist.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I'm gonna have a hard time finding AE to try on and also wanna try ebay but not sure about the sizing. I wear 6US in chucks and my other dress shoes are 7.5US florsheims. should I be going for a 7.5 or 7US in AE?

thanks in advance for any advice given.

I am a size 10D in Florsheim and a 10D in all AEs I've tried on.
