I am trying to determine the proper jacket length. I am a bit confused because I have a variety in my wardrobe and I am about make a substatial investment and cannot decide. Shorter seems to be fashioable yet the old cuff you fingers under at your side routine seems t be too long. Logic says somewhere in the middle but I intend to wear this to my daughters college graduation and thus I want it to be dead on. She is five years old. Thanks.

Forget how it measures up to your arms; make sure it covers your rear.

measuring from the side...the measurement from your shoulder to the bottom of the jacket, and the bottom of the jacket to the bottom of your pant "should" be the same. for me i like the jacket a couple inches shorter, but that's personal preference.

i feel you should find the length that looks the best on you, not what the trends are or what the standard is. although i tend to go for a bit of a shorter jacket, my jackets are a few inches above what the "standard" normally is, cause i feel that it suits me. it's all just a matter of what you like.
