How do you know if she's a woman of your life (e.g. wife)? At what point during your dating, do you decide to get married?

i think everyone will tell you that when the time comes you'll know straight away. its a feeling you get.

I've heard that you'd know right away... but I've had false-alarms, and an awful time after jumping the gun once early in life. Got engaged to a psycho. So... I'd say that you know when you've been together for a while and you're still not sick of each other. I'd say to really know you have to be with someone at least a year before getting engaged. I realize that some people are happily married to someone who they married after only a month, but I'd also say that you stand a better chance of a long, happy marriage if you wait for a reasonable amount of time. I've also been in long-term relationships (3.5 years) that ended because engagement would've been the next step, and it wasn't that time. Is there anything you'd want to change about the girl your with? The way she thinks, looks, (ie. she'd be just perfect if she (fill in blank)? If so, then it isn't time. My $.02 anyways...

You will know when you realise without her, your life will be different for the worse.

When you feel kind of empty if she is not around at the end of the day.

When she is the one you talk to about everything that you see, do or experience that you cannot share with your buddies.

When she is the one you share your silly thoughts without ridicule, which you cannot do with your other buddies.

When she is the one you think of when you want to do something and she is the one you do everything with. Go to the theatre, try the latest reviewed restaurant, recommended shop.

It's more sophisticated and subtle than all of what's been said here, but in that spirit I'll add the following -- you know she's the one when all of the above is true (i.e. when you experience a love deeper, truer, and more lasting than what you've felt before) *and* you choose to be with her.

It is the making of this choice that tells you as much as the feelings you have inside.

by the time I met my wife, I had gone out on dates with literally hundreds of women, and had thought that 2 were the "ones". on maybe the 3rd date with my wife, I realized that she was the one, and understood why the others hadn't been right.

that is my expereince, everybodies expereince is different.

That is what I'm waiting for... again.

I know some of you might laugh when I say this but when I was 19, I met a girl like that. Our first date consisted of meeting up around midnight since we both had our plans for the night ruined. We ended up staying out from midnight until 7am or something talking until our voices were gone. We fell in love with each other that night. We only saw each other for a month then she moved to the Caribbean for work and I moved to a new city for university.
