What do you wear on the plane?

I travel a lot -and I mean a lot- for work. When I fly, it's about half in Biz class and half in coach. I like to look nice, yet comfortable when I fly. Looking like a fat schlub in a track suits, not for me.

Usually when I fly, I wear dry denim, a sweater and/or OBDC, an odd jacket and a pair of dress shoes. What do some other SF road warriors wear on flight?

I don't travel all that much but when I do, I have started wearing a suit.

I like to look nice for the plane. I often wear a longer coat since I can also use it as a blanket.

I used to wear jeans, OCBD, v-neck sweater, and loafers (classic, clean and comfortable) when flying. After leaving my first job I wore a suit and tie to visit my parents (intl. flight). I noticed a dramatic difference in how I was treated by airport and airline personnel. I now wear a suit (usually my workhorse) whenever possible when flying. More often than not I stick with loafers as comfortable shoes are a must. Not only are they easy to get off during security checkpoints but most people's feet swell dramatically during air travel and one needs to have on a 'forgiving' shoe.

Unless you have to go straight from the airport to a plane I think wearing a blazer/sportcoat is somewhat silly.
Usually Me= khakis, l/s shirt (usually something bordering on the weight of a tshirt or very light sweater), drivers or my brown suede Tod's sneakers. If I am going to end up someplace and it might be a bit chilly when I get off the plane I'll add my varsity/bomber style jacket or black leather baseball jacket.

+1

I have also noticed a huge difference in the way I get treated. Since then, it's always a suit for me, generally one that's cut a little fuller. Plus it makes flying feel a little more special instead of just a long, uncomfortable commute.

Friday I flew back in in dry denim, a black tshirt, black half-zip sweater, and my charcoal fedora (had no way to pack it). Monday I flew out in Hickey-Freeman.

I have some full cut flannel pants that I usually wear if it's cool enough that feel like pyjamas. If it's hot I have some full cut Armani linen/cotton pants that I usually wear. Up top usually a oxford shirt and maybe a cardigan sweater.

I always wear a suit and tie. The only concession I make is that I wear slip on jodhpurs rather than lace up shoes because of the security check points.

I like to stand out from the poor, tired, huddled masses. Besides, in a pinch, being well dressed and having manners will get you preferential treatment anywhere, including the madness of air travel.

Blazer and jeans. Being treated well comes with status, too. Although United generally sucks, being Premier Exec makes up for it.

If for business, I wear what I'd wear to a meeting in case they lose my luggage.

Otherwise I usually wear a sportcoat at minimum for all those pockets. A safari jacket is great for casual travel as those pockets rock the house.

I try to look nice for air travel. When I flew to Italy last summer, I wore a cotton/linen blazer, patterned shirt, cotton trousers and Alden loafers. The airport and airline staff treated me pretty well. When I arrived in Italy (a small, regional airport), I walked up to the metal detector...there were three security guards sitting at a table, playing cards/drinking/smoking. SMG's on the shoulder, of course. They waved me on through, cuz I ain't no terr'ist.

I was 1K for years and I don't think anyone on the plane or in the airport pays enough attention to notice.

Unless you are flying in 1st class or possibly even Business class it looks very contrived to wear a suit or even blazer on a plane.
