So, is there an actual quote of him saying he thinks the law in the United States in 2016 should provide for the death penalty for homosexual acts?

Not that I know of. The video that shows him thinking this was from 2015.

An added bonus on that link is the good pastor pointing out how Dumbledore will cause our seven year olds to have a millstone fastened around their necks and be casted into the ocean.

You cite to some commentator on MSNBC saying he called for killing gays. The actual quote from the guy says no such thing.

And the guy isn't even Cruz's pastor. Go figure.

How do you let yourself get snookered this easily?

The more this media circus goes on the more I realize I just don't care anymore.

The pastor in that video is most certainly calling for capital punishment for gays. He does in both the videos in that link.

Yes, Romans Chapter 1 verse 32 the Apostle Paul does says that homosexuals are worthy of death. His words not mine! And I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! And I am not ashamed of the truth of the word of God. And I am willing to go to jail…

That's someone saying he's ready to kill gays.

We need more capital punishment to prove we're tough on crime.  Plus on the perversion of religion front, we have to keep up with ISIS who is now reportedly forcing women to take birth control so they can rape them longer.

No, it's not. I mean, first of all, logically parsing the words, it's not calling for anyone to be killed. It just says they "deserve" death. Lots of people deserve things that they don't necessarily get.

But more than that, he's quoting scripture, and the "death" he's referring to is almost certainly not intended to be an execution, but the sort of thing that keeps you from getting eternal life. Paul's not just referring to homosexuality, after all, but a whole list of sins that no one has before or since thought merited the government imposing a death penalty on someone-- like gossips and slanderers.

(From the NIV):
Quote:
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

I don't need some scandal (or faux-scandal) about his preacher to know that Ted Cruz is an asshole.

So why does he feel he needs to tell us he's willing to go to jail in that quote?

Maybe we'd know if the hacks who suckered you had given us more context.

But I assume it's because they were at a conference on religious liberty and there are ongoing disputes about whether the government should force people to pay for or do things that violate their religious beliefs.

Dumbledore's Army!

Did you notice the pastor did a really quick clothes change, at least twice, before and after the introduction?

Pretty hard to be religious without religious beliefs. While the world changes those who really believe their religion don't change with the world.
