STP $299 RL Herringbone wool/cash topcoat - nice or not so much?

I'm looking for a good workhorse coat for the season, and I came across this at STP: Ralph-Lauren-Herringbone-Topcoat-Wool-Cashmere-For-Men.html

Does anyone have any insight as to quality and fit? And this is "Lauren by Ralph Lauren", that is, not "Ralph Lauren"?

That's expensive. Have you looked at the other Lauren by RL coat http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,...e-For-Men.html Don't forget there's a 30% off link if you look in the STP coupon thread. Lauren by Ralph Lauren is RL's lower end stuff. Only experience I have is with a suit I bought for $250 years ago. Not so good.

Lauren by Ralph Lauren is one of RL's lower lines. I believe it's a licensed product. It's unlikely to have been constructed especially well and the fabric is probably acceptable but not outstanding. Almost certainly a Made in China product. Fit is generally likely to be a bit loose and boxy since that sort of shape is unlikely restrict sales to the masses

Having said all that, as a workhorse coat, it's probably fine. I still think it's too expensive for what you get even at STP prices, but that's a value judgement that you have to make for yourself. If you want that coat, it's probably close to as good a price as you'll get, but I'd say it's too much for that sort of coat.

I have the second coat and the quality is OK, for the price though its a steal. I think the first coat is just too expensive.

I just picked up a 3 piece Lauren by Ralph Lauren suit at Macey's for 230 bucks tax in. Regular 500. For 230 bucks for a Navy suit I figured I coulden't go wrong, even though after wearing Purple Label it's obvious this isn't as good. It's made in Canada, so I felt a bit better about seeing that.
