I'm looking to replace a gray nylon spring/summer jacket I have. Anyone have suggestions where I could find a light jacket with the following specs:

- 1 color, preferably mid-dark gray
- lightweight (windbreaker, basically)
- shirt collar
- zip fastening
- handwarmer pockets, no others
- No elastic
- Not Members Only
- No hood

I've searched STP, backcountry, bluefly, all of the department stores online and drawn a blank. If anyone has bought a similar jacket recently and can tell me where, I'd be grateful.

-TIA

What is your budget? Not knowing that variable, I'd say Baracuta and the Whodini x MJK jacket (and may be MJK's winter jacket, as well) are your best bets.

Edit: go here for info on Michael J Krell's offerings.

YMC nylon double zip jacket

i have one in navy and i love it...very light jacket. fits perfect and has really nice details in all the right places. it comes in navy, brown, and i think olive. i believe blackbird carries it in navy and brown, although i got mine at fred segal. its also available on endclothing, a uk website

The Harrington is out, unfortunately, because of the elasticated waist, and the colors. Thanks for the suggestion, though - I wanted one so much when I was ten, which dates me a little.

Budget is $200 max. This is a just a jacket for rainy summer days, one that is casual enough to work with sneakers and simple enough to work with business casual/dress shoes.

MJK's whodini looks like a good fit, but the pockets have too much going on, and the fabrics not going to work on an 80F day.

The Baracuta G4 is similar to the usual G9 but with button cuffs and buckle adjusters at the waist:

I have an Arc'Teryx softshell windbreaker that I wear quite often. It's been discontinued now, but I beleive the replacement is the Sigma family of jackets. It's pricey, but well worth the money as you can wear it down to 40 degree weather with just a sweater underneath.

That's pretty close to what I want. Is it available anywhere other than Japan?

OiPolloi ships internationally.

I actually like the G4 a lot better than the G9.

Do they make copies of the G4? I've seen various G9s around, but don't recall any non-Baracuta G4s.

When I glanced at the thread title I immediately thought of these two jackets as I own both. For what it's worth, I live in Costa Rica and the Whodini works out well with the warmer (80-85F) days that lead to cooler rainy evenings. I say that truthfully and not just because of obvious contractual endorsement.

Another recommendation that sounds similar to what you're looking for is American Apparel's nylon windbreaker: http://store.americanapparel.net/n431.html While the quality may come into question, I've owned one for roughly a year and haven't had a single issue. The only problem I see is the elastic waist.

Dickies makes a basic jacket like you've described...its called the Eisenhower and you can get it either lined or unlined. Might be too casual for what you are looking for, however.

Check out Yoox and ebay for an Italian brand called "Postcard." I always post this one in the "favorite unknown Yoox Brands" or "best brands nobody has ever heard of" because I love their lightweight jackets and windbreakers. Construction and details are great (sturdy nylons and cottons, RIRI zippers, etc.) and though the retail is very high... 300 Euros+... nobody ever buys it and so you can get them on Yoox, yoox's ebay site xstyleshop, or on regular ebay for $25-50. I've got two or three jackets and I think that about $30, shipping included, is the highest I've ever paid.

There are occasionally Harrington style jackets with button cuffs and/or side buckles instead of elastic, but I've never seen a dedicated on-purpose G4 copy. You could check the usual mod/skinhead brands such as Merc, Fred Perry, etc. though.
