These are my newly acquired sea-turtle skin shoes. Interestingly, they are by Charles Jourdan Paris which is a maker more reknown for their women's couture shoes but decades ago, they did produce men's shoes. Hardly worn and with the original flat laces. I never knew a RTW maker to use an esoteric skin like sea-turtle, but maybe Jourdan had a MTO program at that time. According to Pejsek via The London Shoemaker, sea-turtle skin was used by Alan McAfee in lieu of the more common alligator/crocodile.

Very nice!

Just out of curiosity, where do you get some of your more "esoteric" stuff? Of course, it's okay if you don't want to reveal your specific source, I'm just curious if you have a local retailer from whom you obtain the items, or online, etc.? Perhaps I'm just doing the wrong ebay searches, as I never find that sort of wildly exotic stuff.

No, I don't have a local retailer, but there are online places that specialize in these sorts of vintage luxury type things like www.vintageskins.com for exotic hides and various other brick & mortar shops that deal exclusively in vintage luxury goods like Dupre-Lafon for Hermes or Dunhill lighters: www.bentleyslondon.com/ Also, eBay can be a treasure trove for these items since most of the time the sellers are clueless about the worth and the descriptions are terrible. Some of the people also call fake reptile skins real which is something you to be careful of.

Thank you. I think these shoes are really rustic shoes, paired with tweed and the like, or maybe I could go Tom Ford.

That's the ticket... just don't go "full Ford" and slosh through sewage in them!

I've read that sea-turtle is a desirable skin in Texas, for the manufacture of custom cowboy boots; they often import it through the black-market from Mexico as of course, sea-turtle is now an endangered species.
