What product would you recommend to remove the wax after the build up of many polishings? -HitMan009

Lexol cleaner works for me.

I concur, Lexol is hands down the best leather cleaner I have every used and I have tried everything on riding boots & saddles ....and they get scummier than your shoes assuming you don't wander through sewage treatment plants.

so where's the best place to buy it?

Auto supply stores usually have it. Get the cleaner and NOT the conditioner. They rebadge it for "household," "auto," etc., but as far as I know it it is all the same stuff in different colored bottles for different channels.

Any tack shop should have it as well... And Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymot....y=50450

I would test the Lexol in an inconspicuous area of the shoe to make sure it won't darken the leather, as I've heard it can do. Allen Edmonds makes a leather cleaner/conditioner that will strip the old wax and condition the leather. It works well. If you go the Lexol route, please let us know how it works out.

Pretesting is good advice for any product. That said, I've never had a problem with Lexol cleaner darkening any of my leather. I would think the conditioner is more likely to do that than the cleaner.

Lexol conditioner will indeed turn leather a shade darker. I keep it around for when I need to do just that.

I use Saphir's Leather Cleaner/Conditioner. Most excellent stuff - and it does not darken leathers - none of my EG's/Lobb's/Berluti etc browns have have darkened.
