Washing dishes is prolly the worst job I've ever gotten paid for. But, we used to live in this older house with a basement when I was about 11 and occasionally sewage would bubble up from this one pipe during bad storms. It was my job to clean that **** up, good times.

Me too. I injured my spinal disc in high school senior year and sat out of all sports. Went to work at an Italian restaurant, possibly the worst dishwashing job because of all the cheese baked onto the dishes. I never had to clean up **** though.

I used to bus tables at a restaurant frequented by senior citizens. I used to have to clean the bathrooms every night. These old women would crap ad pee all over the place. I remember one night I stocked the bathroom with toilet paper and the floor was clean. A woman comes in so I leave. After she finishes and leaves, I enter to see crap all over the floor. She went and told the manager someone crapped on the floor and it needed to be cleaned. It was her. I couldn't believe it. In the guys room, pubes would be all over the place. It was disgusting. It helped pay for college though. It was bar far the worst job I had till Marshall Field's became Macy's.

WOrking at a Bagel bakery for a year or so in high school. It was dirty (like many restaurants) and the customers were a pain (like most service related jobs). Oh yeah and the pay was terrible.

Layed asphault by hand one summer making walkways in a petro plant: shovel and wheel barrow and 100F and no shade. Hardest damn work I've ever done!

Putting away books at the library. For the terrible pay it is no doubt the most mentally draining job I've ever had.

My library job wasn't quite as bad as yours, but my most frustrating job was working tech support with a supervisor who knew less than the people breaking the machines.

I worked in a factory for one summer.
10 hour days, 6 days a week.
Nice overtime.

But,
The job consisted of getting a forklift pallet of paper (8x11).
You have 3 piles in front of you that a machine comes and grabs the bottom piece.
Make sure the piles dont run out by refilling them from the paper behind you on pallets.

Most boring thing ever. Stack paper. Watch machine take paper. Stack Paper.

It was unbelievably hot. No air conditioning. The factory made you drink a certain amount of water and eat a certain amount of salt pills.

Hours were 4pm-2am - meaning no social life.

I had a seasonal job like that one year in college where it was utterly mindless, conditions were good though with A/C. Books on tape saved my sanity. The people that worked there for a living day in day out? Whew, I had to admire their determination to put food on the table for the kids.

+1. You never get to the end of the books. Your back hurts from leaning over constantly to put the books on the low shelves. Repetitive, mind-numbing. No gratification. Ugh.

My job after that was sleeping at the beach for $8 an hour, so I guess it balances out.

My buddy and I tried telemarketing during college! We sold magazines, slyly slipping in that a portion of our profits would go to a charity of their choice (there were about 7-8 from which to choose). The script was written such that it many people could reasonably construe it to mean we were calling on behalf of these charities.

We were trained by a guy wearing a tie with a knife, fork, and spoon on it for two days before hitting the floor. We were told of the best salesman in the building - I believe they said he made about $1000 per week, a figure that momentarily made us dream of our forthcoming riches. That salesman was wearing a sock with a baseball-sized hole in its side. We lasted all of two days there before not wanting to go back.
