Thinking about getting a MTM overcoat from WWChan

I'm thinking about commissioning a MTM overcoat from WW Chan. Has anyone had one made from Chan (or any maker for that matter), and if so, are there any specific things I should consider? I'm thinking of getting a basic SB in charcoal wool, peak lapels, slanted hacking pockets. I'm looking to get it relatively slimmer fitting where I can wear it over a suit or just a sweater and slacks. Anyone know a price range?

Also, I live in SoCal, and I realize it doesn't get as cold here as it does in the mid-west or east coast, although nights can get pretty damn cold for a number of months. Is an overcoat a worthwhile purchase, or should I spend that money on a suit instead?

Thanks for the input...

Shoot. This should be moved to Men's Clothing.

A suit will get more use in SoCal. There are probably 2-3 days a year that would warrant an overcoat. You could still wear the suit jacket as a layering item a lot more frequently.
