Bump - just a few more days to run on these auctions.

I have new stock, but I'm going to hold off posting most of them until these auctions finish. Just going to post a little taster in a new thread later on tonight...

Holdfast,
Are buttons exposed when you button the navy cashmere overcoat or are they covered by another flap? (I hope I asked this question clearly)

Also, do you have anything purple label in a 42 or 44 long in your new stock?

Thanks

I understand what you mean!

The buttons are hidden by the overlying fabric when buttoned up. I forget the proper name for this sort of front.

No 42L or 44L in my new stock.

Hmm... any good 36 (or 38S) stock people should be keeping a quick eye on for when you post?

There are two 38R overcoats coming (one is the RLPL already posted elsewhere, the other is a lovely brown moleskin with a thick nap to the cloth). I also have a couple of suits - one a 42R RLPL DB and the other a 46R navy Polo suit. I haven't taken full measurements but will do so before I post them on Sunday. I almost picked up a jet black 36R Black Label serge wool suit and a navy pinstripe Black Label in 38R I think, but they were both just a little pricier than I wanted to pay (not enough margin for me to sell it on). I might pick them up in a couple of weeks if they drop a little more.

Hello Holdfast, After lurking over the forums for quite a bit, I wanted to jump at the opportunity to upgrade from my "interview" suit. My previous suit was purchased ~3 years ago at a Macy's; a Calvin Klein 38R. Unfortunately, now it fits like a straitjacket. So, I had my sister attempt measurements on me and they are: Chest 43" Shoulder-Shoulder 20-21" Waist 34.75" Neck vertebrate to below bottom 32" Now, knowing next to nothing about suits, would this be 42R or 44R territory? I've expanded quite a bit from weightlifting, but 6 sizes in 3 years? Also, it was quite hard to measure out a definitive shoulder measurement because my traps kind of meld into my biceps; we ended up going shoulder bone to bone. It was quite apparent that I wasn't going to be able to go into my residency interviews in my prior suit after I ripped a few stitches trying to put it on. I literally had no arm range of motion because even the sleeves were glue on my arms. In any case, I went with the time honored teenage interview look of black suit (with pinstripes) so I believe now is about the right time to purchase a more fashion forward suit. Also, is there a thigh measurement on the pants? I'm working around 26" thighs though I've never had a problem with dept. store dress pants.

I'm sure others are probably better placed to comment regarding sizes, but my two cents:

A chest measurement of 43 - no wonder your 38R didn't fit you any more!

Most jackets actual chest measurements are around 2.5-5" more than the tagged size, depending on how slim-cut they are. You should choose which size to go for on the same basis and taking into account the shoulder size too. Remember that most people measuring suits measure from seam to seam for the shoulder which won't exactly match your anatomical dimensions. Black Label is quite slim fitting, so going purely by the sizes you listed, I doubt the 42R would fit comfortably with only a 2.5" chest clearance esp. in light of your shoulders. 44R seems a better bet I would say. The trouser waist would need some sorting, but that's no problem for a tailor.

Please note, I don't do refunds for sizing issues unless my measurements are wrong... but at the prices I'm asking on eBay, even if it isn't a perfect fit, you should be able to flip it fairly easily!

Unfortunately, I'm away from home this weekend until tomorrow evening, so can't get you a thigh measurement on the suit until then. Black Label trousers are also quite slim fitting, but not anorexic skinny!

Best of luck, should you decide to bid.

If anyone else has advice for you, or feels I'm mistaken, please do post.

You might be a 46R, based on chest size alone. I'd go to a store that sells Italian suits (Canali / Corneliani) and get measured there, and try some suits on. You're going to need real-life experience before you buy something online.

Auctions will end in a few hours - with no bids yet, someone's going to get some real bargains!

Link to the auctions in my signature and in the first post of this thread.

Thanks for the help you two. I went to try a few suits on for sizing, and I was most definitely a 44R; the salesman literally stared at me in disbelief when I told him I was squeezing into 38's thus far.

Was keeping an eye on the RLBL topcoat auction. A little too expensive for my student blood , but congratulations on the nice bidding war at the end
