Buying contact lenses online?

Has anyone bought contacts online that can recommend a reliable source? Is it even legal to buy online?

I have not personally, but will be starting within about 2 months when my current supply dries up.

I've read up a bit on it, and there's two or three bigger reputable online sites, but 1800contacts stands out as the big one that does not require an actual doctor's prescription to be sent in; apparently you can just fill in the info from your box/prescription through the website and they'll send them out.

I've been a customer of 1-800-CONTACTS for years... no problems whatsoever.

I also used them for years and was happy with the service. I switched about two years ago to a service that is somehow affiliated with my opthamologist's office. The pricing is comparable, and they get automatically notified if my prescription changes.

It's definitely legal. As far as I recall -- I could be wrong here -- at some point in the process 1800CONTACTS does verify your prescription with your optha. Frankly, I can't imagine why anyone would buy contacts online without a recent prescription. You don't need to get a new eye exam if you're sure your prescription hasn't changed -- your Dr.'s office should be able to fax/give you a copy.

If you haven't had your eyes checked in the last year you'll probably have to make an appointment, at least thats been my experience.

I have used http://www.visiondirect.com/ several times. You can either fax your prescription or they can call your prescribing practitioner for the Rx. Contact lens prescriptions are generally good for one year; your eye doctor may require that you have another exam if it has been longer than that. For my contacts (Durasoft 3 Torics), visiondirect.com had the best prices.

I've been buying my contacts online from Coastal Contacts for several years. I have astigmatism so I use Toric lenses. When I was doing my research CC had the best prices for the type of lenses I use so I went with them and have had no problems whatsoever.

I have also used 1-800-contacts. If I remember correctly you will need to fax a current copy of your prescription to them.

1800 Contacts as mentioned before is a solid source with a great reputation. They constantly have great offers such as discounts and free shipping. I believe the diligence with the prescription depends upon which state you reside in. I sent mine in once, and when I had to make changes to it, they didn't require additional verification.

I've purchased from aclens.com without any problems. I get them at Costco now since they have the best price on Acuvue's.

I've used www.ACLens.com multiple times and its really cheap and easy. All you have to do is give them your eye doctor's name and phone number and they verify the prescription and send your contacts out.

+1. Been using them for years, perfect every time.

If by chance you are getting them for color, you MUST get an eye exam first, otherwise they will not fit you properly and damage your eyes.
