FYI, per our data base at Poison Center, the amounts of caffeine in coffee/tea type beverages are as follows:
PRODUCT AMOUNT
COFFEE
brewed drip coffee 60-180 mg/5 oz cup
brewed percolator coffee 40-179 mg/5 oz cup
instant coffee 30-190 mg/5 oz cup
decaffeinated brewed coffee 2-5 mg/5 oz cup
decaffeinated instant 1-5 mg/5 oz cup
coffee
Nescafe-Classic(R) instant 63 mg/5 oz cup (Galasko,
coffee 1989)
Instant Coffee powder 57 mg/1 rounded teaspoonful
(1.5 g)
Espresso 100 mg/1 serving (1.5-2oz)
TEA
brewed commercial tea 20-90 mg/5 oz cup
brewed imported tea 25-110 mg/5 oz cup
instant tea 2-20 mg/5 oz cup
iced tea 67-76 mg/12 oz glass
I never have any problems with drinking caffeinated beverages myself. They don't keep me awake or make me jittery. I have, however, experienced nausea and anxiety from taking No Doz (caffeine tablets) back in college. I tried taking it while cramming for exams; I wouldn't advise it to anyone! The only other time I had any problem with caffeine was when I lived in Israel. I used to drink 10 or more cups of tea daily. On one Sabbath (everything is closed that day in Jerusalem), I ran out of tea bags. I developed a severe rebound headache from caffeine withdrawal.
