My older friend met his swap-mate on Craigslist. I'd echo the advice of getting the other person thoroughly checked out though.

Any interesting question is how would insurance handle things if your place burned down or there was a major theft while someone else was staying at your place? I finally got my place insured and they asked me if i had roommates. Presumably, since i answered that I did not, if I got a roommate without calling my insurance provider and there was a disaster deemed to be the roommates' fault, i'd be screwed.

Is Chairman Meow part of the swap?

Yes, he will stay in Austin and you will have to feed him. I'll swap you for Paris.

I'll take it. I won't promise that you'll still have it upon your return though.

You'll have to note the interesting cat foods here in Paris -- pheasant, rabbit, and so on. Italy has even more interesting ones -- pastas, cheeses, tuna with olives...

Can't say I'd be able to swap anytime soon, but let me know if you have plans to come to town before my exile ends next year.

If I still owned a house I would be interested in house swaping stuff as well.

Do you want a longer term house swap?

If you just want to travel there is also couchsurfing. Look it up
